Annual Scott Hulick Professional Development ScholarshipThe Capital Chapter of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) sponsors the Scott Hulick Professional Development Scholarship to provide financial support for current students in advanced education in the profession of Facility Management.The Scholarship is intended to honor Scott Hulick who, as Program Director of the George Mason University Professional Certificate in Facility Management Program, raised the profile and institutional awareness of the profession and encouraged countless chapter members to pursue continuous improvement through professional development.Through the scholarship program, the Capital Chapter of IFMA strives to encourage students in their pursuit of advanced education in the FM profession, thereby enabling the development of the next generation of facility managers. The scholarship program should also help to raise the public awareness and appreciation of the FM profession, provide increased visibility for the Chapter, support Chapter membership retention efforts, and encourage recognition for developing professionals.Eligibility Applicants must be currently enrolled in one of the eligible educational programs and holding a minimum GPA of 3.0:The Professional Certificate in Facility Management at the George Mason University (GMU);The Master of Science in Facilities Management program through the Architecture and Planning School of the Catholic University of America (CUA).Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) programs associated with facility management such as Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Construction Management, and Mechanical Engineering Technology, Specialization. Other programs in the DC Metro Area that support the advancement of the FM profession will be considered by the selection committee, but it is up to the applicant to make the case via a letter that the program supports the intent of this scholarship.While membership in the Capital Chapter of IFMA is not mandatory to be eligible for the scholarship, it will be a consideration in the review of the applicant’s package.Applicants must submit two (2) letters from instructors/professors teaching at the selected institution, or from one (1) professor and one (1) professional employer (architect, engineer, facility manager or IFMA member), that acknowledges the student’s demonstrated interest in facility management.Applicants must submit an original, typed 300-500-word essay describing his or her interest in Facility Management or any particular aspect/competency of the FM profession, and acknowledge the expectation that the education will support the student’s long-term career goals.An applicant is not eligible to receive a scholarship if they have received a scholarship from the Chapter within the past twelve (12) months.StructureAward: Two $1000 Scholarships for the application yearSchedule: Applications Accepted: December 15, 2018 through March 1, 2019 Scholarship Awarded: Annual Capital Chapter Awards Event – March, 2019 Budget: Chapter to ensure funding in Professional Development line.Promotion: Scholarship will be promoted through bi-weekly announcements, newsletters, and Capital Chapter e-News.Management: Submissions will be received by the Capital Chapter Professional Development Team and forwarded to the Review Committee.Review:? The Review Committee will consist of one (1) Executive Board member, one (1) member of the Professional Development Team, and one (1) member?of IFMA outside of the?Capital Chapter. The Committee may also include a representative of the eligible educational programs. Please do not describe what you have done, but what you plan to do in your FM career and how the education you are pursuing will support your short and long-term career goals. Please limit your letter to 300 – 500 words.For example, the letter of intent would include short and long term goals within the profession and how your coursework supports your search. These may include positions/titles within a corporate/institutional setting; they may include potential growth along the FBPTA Federal Government career stream; they may also include research/sales/consulting goals, either within a specific organization or some future organization where you have interest.Resume/CVPlease attach a copy of your resume/CV outlining your work history. List principal jobs you have held in the past, including military service, in chronological order with the most recent first. Include the name of each organization, your title/position, a description of responsibilities and period of employment. (Limit: 2 pages).Letters of RecommendationSubmit two (2) letters of recommendation from industry related colleagues. Letters may be from the following:Two (2) professors/instructors that teach at the selected institution; Two (2) recent employers that can speak to your FM interest/abilities; or One (1) each from a professor and a professional employer.The correspondence will recommend you for a scholarship and should highlight performance characteristics that demonstrate your FM interest/abilities and potential future success in the profession. If the recommendation is submitted via email, it must come from the evaluator’s email account.
