MondayQ49 - Where is Christ now?A - Christ rose bodily from the grave on the third day after his death and is seated at the right hand of the Father, ruling his kingdom and interceding for us, until he returns to judge and renew the whole world.(Kids) Christ rose bodily from the grave on the third day after his death and is seated at the right hand of the Father.Bible Reading - Ephesians 1:20-21Teaching Points:I wonder whether you or your household have wondered where Jesus is today? Sometimes we forget where He is, and what happened after He rose from the dead. Our question reminds us that Jesus rose ‘bodily’ - this means that Jesus was raised physically, not like a ghost, but a real person. People saw Him and spoke with Him (1 Corinthians 15:5-6). Some people today still doubt whether Jesus truly rose from the dead - but it’s hard to argue with 500+ people seeing Him in the flesh after His death! But we know Jesus doesn;t physically walk the earth today. He ‘is seated at the right hand of the Father’.Our Bible reading reminds us that Jesus is sitting on the throne as our King - the right hand of the Father is the place where God's King reigns. Jesus is on His throne, ruling over the whole world. That’s an incredible comfort. When everything in this world seems to be going wrong, where bad things happen and our lives are confusing, painful and hard, we can take great joy that Jesus, our King, still rules and reigns. Nothing happens outside of His care or knowledge, and for all who belong to this King by faith, they have the promise that all things work for the ultimate good Romans 8:28).And God’s Word gives us the promise that Jesus will return to ‘judge’ and ‘renew’ the whole world. He will one day come to put right all that sin has corrupted. The question we need to ask ourselves and our household - are we trusting the King? Have we come to Him in faith, saying sorry for our sin and asking Him to forgive us, make us new, and so be able to live to His glory?Activity - The King’s Hide and Seek!Make a crown (or get a picture of a crown) and hide it somewhere. The aim for all players is to find the crown. Start by hiding it in difficult places, then for the last round, hide it somewhere in plain sight. Use this to explain while there are sometimes we don;t know where something is, that we know where Jesus is today.Song: TuesdayQ50 - What does Christ’s resurrection mean for us?A - Christ triumphed over sin and death by being physically resurrected, so that all who trust in him are raised to new life in this world and to everlasting life in the world to come. Just as we will one day be resurrected, so this world will one day be restored. But those who do not trust in Christ will be raised to everlasting death.(Kids) Christ triumphed over sin and death so that all who trust in him are raised to new life in this world and to everlasting life in the world to come.Bible Reading - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14Teaching Points:Today’s question is of incredible comfort to us.Firstly, because Jesus was really raised from the dead physically, He really did pay for our sin, He truly took the punishment we deserved, He did all He said He would do, and He truly conquered the power of sin and death! That’s GOOD NEWS!!We also read that all who trust in Him ‘are raised to new life in this world’. Remember, the Bible tells us that we are ‘dead’ in our sin (Ephesians 2:1) - we couldn;t help ourselves, we need to be made alive! That’s what happens when the Spirit works in us to bring us to faith - He makes us alive, and brings us to trust in Jesus. We have a new life now, new purpose in living, new hope, new power to live as we were always meant to: to God’s glory.Jesus rising again also reminds us that all who trust in Him will also receive ‘everlasting life in the age to come’. As our Bible reading reminds us, just as Jesus was raised from the dead, so those who are trusting in Him (and united to Him) will also be raised to everlasting life - life that’s never ending, where no sin or suffering will be known or seen. We will have perfected bodies, in the new heavens and new earth, with God! This comforts us as we struggle with sickness, sin, difficulty, suffering - it won’t last forever. There’s also a warning here: that those who don’t trust in Jesus will also be raised, but to ‘everlasting death’. Never-ending wrath and judgement from God: it will be no party. Jesus will be the judge, He knows all who do trust in Him, and all who don’t. We can’t fool Jesus - so if we or anyone in our household are trusting in anything else other than Jesus, we need to turn and run to Jesus by faith. He won’t turn away all who come to Him seeking forgiveness and rest from their sin.Activity - Word Search!Use the below word search to help remember today’s answer.Song: WednesdayQ51 - Of what advantage to us is Christ’s ascension?A - Christ physically ascended on our behalf, just as he came down to earth physically on our account, and he is now advocating for us in the presence of his Father, preparing a place for us, and also sends us his Spirit.(Kids) Christ is now advocating for us in the presence of his Father and also sends us his Spirit.Bible Reading - Romans 8:34Teaching Points:Yesterday’s question reminded us of some of the amazing truths about Jesus rising again. Today’s question reminds us of the amazing fact that Jesus is sitting ‘at the right hand of the father’ in heaven. Why is that such amazing news if we are trusting in Him?1. He is ‘advocating’ for us to God the Father. An ‘advocate’ is someone who speaks up for someone else to defend them. (Ask your household if someone has ever stuck up for them in school or at home so they wouldn’t get in trouble). Our Bible reading reminds us that Jesus is the One who brings us to God and defends us. In effect He says before God the Father: ‘You can accept them into your presence because of me, not because they have earned it, but because they belong to me. I lived for them, died for them, and rose again for them. They are forgiven through me, so no one can harm them, and they will not need to face your wrath. They know your love and grace through me!’ Even though we will still struggle with sin and will fail to obey perfectly throughout our lives, even as we trust in Christ and seek to live for Him, He is the one who keeps us and brings us before God to enjoy His presence. 2. He has prepared a place for us - we will be with God in the new heavens and new earth - Jesus keeps us and doesn’t let us go! 3. We have His Spirit. One of the roles of the Spirit in the hearts of all who trust in Jesus is to not only bring us to trust in Jesus but also to ‘seal’ us (2 Corinthians 1:22). Seals were used in Jesus’ time to show who owned an item or to show who a letter was sent from, and it guaranteed protection. The Spirit ‘seals’ us in reminding us WHOSE we are, that we belong to Christ, and nothing can change that as we rest in Him.Song: - What hope does everlasting life hold for us?A - It reminds us that this present fallen world is not all there is; soon we will live with and enjoy God forever in the new city, in the new heaven and the new earth, where we will be fully and forever freed from all sin and will inhabit renewed, resurrection bodies in a renewed, restored creation.(Kids) That we will live with and enjoy God forever in the new heaven and the new earth, where we will be forever freed from all sin in a renewed, restored creation.Bible Reading - Revelation 21:1-4Teaching Points:What do you think heaven will be like for those who trust in Jesus? Sometimes we think it will be all white clouds, harps and streets of gold! The Bible describes Heaven in much better and fuller ways. Our Bible reading reminds us that we will live in the ‘new heavens and new earth’. It’s not just heaven that we gain, but we will be in a restored, renewed creation. The world as we know it will be changed, as God reverses and removes all that is wrong with us and our world. Our question tells us so amazingly that everlasting life will be where we ‘will live with and enjoy God’. That should be the greatest longing and desire of our lives: to be with our great, gracious, merciful, glorious God who loved us and made us for Himself, and not only to be with Him, but to ‘enjoy God forever’! This is no boring eternal life. God is the greatest joy and our greatest delight as we consider who He is and what He has done for us. We will share in the perfect joy God has Himself. It will be like ‘a home which shall never be broken up, a meeting without a parting, a family gathering without a separation, a day without night’ - what a thought!!As well, this joy we will have with God is even more sweet as ‘we will be forever freed from all sin’. Jesus has freed us from the penalty of our sin, we are being freed from its power daily by the Spirit, and we will one day be free from its very presence, and all the suffering, death, and decay that comes with sin. Instead, we will have new bodies, resurrected bodies with perfected souls, where we will not know sin, but only perfect peace, rest and joy in God Himself. The beauty, joy and peace that awaits us is not even worth comparing to the difficulty and suffering we may be going through now (Romans 8:18). We can keep going, no matter how difficult life is, with great joy and hope as we rest in Christ day-by-day and look forward to that day when: ‘He will dwell with them, and they will be his people’ (Rev 21:3).Activity - The Big Reminder!Take a big piece of card, and write out this week’s Q&A - decorate, colour, paint, jazz it up! Hang it or stick it somewhere prominent to remind you that in Christ, we have an amazing hope we look forward to - with God and enjoying Him forever!Song: ................
