This statewide list of neuropsychologists has been compiled from information provided by the neuropsychologists listed. We hope that it will be helpful and informative, facilitating access to their professional expertise and services.

AHIF does not endorse any of these practitioners. This Directory was generated as a service to people with TBI without any criteria established other than the person reporting that he/she provides neuropsychological services.

What is a Neuropsychologist?

A neuropsychologist is a psychologist with specialized training in brain behavior relationships.

What is a board certified Neuropsychologist?

Any neuropsychologist can apply to the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology, ABCN, (a member of the American Board of Professional Psychology, ABPP), and/or the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology, ABPN, to become board certified. Board certification assures the public and the profession that the specialist in clinical neuropsychology has met the education, training and experience requirements, as well as demonstrating the advanced competencies required by the specialty through an individualized peer reviewed examination. The lack of Board Certification, however does not necessarily mean the Neuropsychologist is unqualified.

What do Neuropsychologists do?

Neuropsychologists have many different types of jobs and not every neuropsychologist does the same thing. Many neuropsychologists administer psychological tests and perform assessments to diagnose specific disorders of the brain. These brain disorders often result in problems with thinking, emotions and/or behavior. Neuropsychologists study ways to measure recovery from brain damage as well as developing strategies for interventions that are effective in remediation, retraining and accommodation.

Some Neuropsychologists also provide psychotherapy. Neuropsychologists may teach, and some conduct research in colleges and universities to better understand the functioning of the brain. Neuropsychologists who work in the court system are known as forensic neuropsychologists. These neuropsychologists choose to use their knowledge to help in forensic (legal) issues.
