Positive Behavior Support Family ServicesNevada Center for Excellence in DisabilitiesPositive Behavior Support –Nevada (PBS-NV) Family Support project is funded through the Nevada’s Department of Health and Human Services, Fund for Healthy Nevada, and Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities. PBS-NV is a statewide project (trainers are based out of Elko, Las Vegas, and Reno). We provide trainings and individual consultation to families with children with disabilities and challenging behavior. ?We have a variety of topics including PBS 101, Potty Training, Picky Eating, Routines/Transitions, Communication, and Addressing Challenging Behavior. ?Our classes are offered in Spanish for the Las Vegas region. These classes are $10/session for each family (ranging from 1-5 sessions) with a sliding scale for families at or below poverty level. ?While these team trainings are targeted at families, teachers and other community professionals are welcome to attend in support of the child. PBS-NV also provides the opportunity for families to have individual in-home or on-site consults with a Behavior Analyst following each workshop to better serve participants and improve quality of life for the family.Tier 1:PBS 101 - Building Cooperative Behavior: A workshop designed to educate parents and professionals on universal strategies and preventing problem behavior. Participants will learn to increase appropriate behaviors and decrease inappropriate behaviors. This class will range from 1 hour to 2 hours. We have the ability to customize the examples to target specific populations. There is no cost to attend our Building Cooperative Behavior class. Tier 2:Potty Pros – Toilet Training:?A workshop for parents of children ages 2-10 who have attempted toilet training with little to no success. Participants will learn the five-step process to effectively toilet train their child. This class is 2.5-hours and includes a 1-hour individual consultation with a Behavior Analyst. Picky Eaters:?A workshop designed for parents of children ages 2-18 who have difficulty getting their child to eat a variety of nutritional foods. Participants will learn to increase the variety of foods, try new foods, and enjoy mealtime with their child. This class is 2.5-hours and includes a 1-hour individual consultation with a Behavior Analyst.Effective Communication:?A workshop for parents and support staff of individuals who have difficulty communicating and who currently or may be likely to engage in challenging behavior as a result. Participants will learn to identify the form of communication most appropriate, increase communication, and decrease inappropriate behavior. This class is 2.5-hours and includes a 1-hour individual consultation with a Behavior Analyst.Routines and Transitions:?A workshop for parents and support staff of individuals who have difficulty transitioning?from one activity to another or who have a hard time ending one activity or starting another activity. Participants will learn to develop consistent routines and implement self-management strategies. This class is 2.5-hours and includes a 1-hour individual consultation with a Behavior Analyst.Tier 3: Addressing Challenging Behavior: A workshop in which the consultant will help families assess their child’s problem behavior, then assist in the development of a complete behavior plan that families will be able to implement. Participants will learn to identify functions of behavior, teach appropriate alternative behavior, and use reinforcement effectively. This class ranges from 3 to 5 sessions: each session is 2.5 -3 hours and includes a 1-hour individual consultation per class session (i.e., 3 to 5 consultations) with a Behavior Analyst.
