6th Grade Ancient World HistoryHistorical Figure Presentation & Wax Museum ProjectStudents, you are expanding your understanding of history by studying the people and events that shaped the major ancient civilizations. As a signature project, you will actually BECOME A FAMOUS PERSON FROM ANCIENT HISTORY! You will choose a historically significant figure from our sixth grade curriculum to research. The list of acceptable historical figures is attached. You will number your “top four” with #1 being your first choice, #2 your second, and so on.There are 3 parts to this assignment:Part I – Research historical figure, create speech and posterPart II – Present in class– dress up and deliver your monologue to your class during corresponding unitPart III – Wax Museum (end of year, date to be announced) – dress up and present to everyone!Required Elements Descriptions:Biography Research Notes- Using online sources or informational books, research your figure. On theBiography Research Notes worksheet, include accurate historical information to describe his/her life and his/her impact on the civilization.Biography Poster- This is a poster to be displayed beside you during the class presentation and then during the Wax Museum Day. You’ll use information from the biography notes for your poster. Poster should be 24 X 36 standard poster board or tri-fold presentation board so it can be easily read. Poster board will need to be provided by you. The poster needs to be neat, colorful, creative, and contain important biographical information that describes your historical figure’s life and impact on his/her civilization. Include visual elements including a picture of the figure. Drawings done by you or printed portraits are both acceptable. Character Costume- Create an appropriate costume that reflects what the historical figure would wear or looklike. You may purchase part or all of your costume, or use everyday objects & materials around you that do not need to be purchased for your costume. It should be representative of the figure and recognizable as something that person would wear in his/her civilization. On the day of the museum presentation, you will wear the costume again as you are taking on the persona of your historical figure.Prop- Create or find an appropriate prop that your historical figure would use/have/need in everyday life. Itshould be appropriate to his/her lifestyle and civilization, for example: shield, headpiece, writing materials, jewelry, tool, etc. One-Minute Monologue- This is something that is spoken by you as the historical figure. You must introduceyourself as the person and explain who you are and how you are important in the civilization. Use information from your Biography Research Notes worksheet to create your speech. You may use your prop(s) at this point. You will share the monologue multiple times as classroom visitors rotate through the history museum. You will need to memorize the monologue unless other arrangements have been made.Wax Museum Tour Presentation- During the museum tour presentation, be in character and share what you know about him/her. Have your figure information fully researched, prepared, and ready. Being “in character” means that you will take on the persona of that figure and speak as him/her. You will answer questions and teach the visitors about the figure.Timeline:? ____________ Review and select top 4 historical figures with parent? ____________ You’ll be assigned a historical figure from your top 4 (hopefully)? ____________ Presentation time in class? ____________ Wax Museum Day“But Ms. Facinelli, how do I become my famous person!?”I am glad you asked that question. First, you need to learn all about them. Start from when they were a child. If possible, find out where they grew up, what kind of education they received, and if there were important events that influenced their life. Most importantly, focus on their adult life and learn about anything important they accomplished. Gather all this information together and study, study, study! You will be given a research worksheet to help guide you through the process. You need to prepare a 60-90 second speech about your person. This speech needs to be told as if you were them. I will be handing out a grading rubric for your speech and poster later.Date of class presentation will depend upon historical figure chosen/assigned. For example, if a student is assigned Socrates, he or she will present during our Greece unit (3rd quarter). END OF 4th QUARTER: We will do a 5 paragraph essay at the end of the year based on the research done for this project. We will keep your written speech and the “Research Worksheet” in class to reference for this paper.POINTS:Poster = 25Written Speech/Research Worksheet = 25Presentation (costume and prop, performance, etc.) = 50Total Project Points = 1004th Quarter:Wax Museum Participation = KUDOS!5 Paragraph Essay = 100 pts.
