The subjects include, but are not limited to: Math, Science, Language, Movement, Art, Free Play, Outdoor Play, and Storytelling.

Breakfast/Snack:

Breakfast and afternoon snacks are served daily at Falcon’s Nest preschool. If your child has a specific diet or allergies, please make sure to inform the teachers. If your child arrives after breakfast (7:40am) is served, make sure he/she has already eaten breakfast for the day.

Parents wishing to bring snacks for the class must have items approved by the teacher first.

Lunch:

Parents must provide a nutritious, healthy, and well-balanced lunch for their child daily. Please see the attached nutritional recommendations for children. Lunches will not be warmed or refrigerated, please heat and serve your child’s food in a thermos or provide an icepack to keep the items cool.

Uniform:

There is no set uniform for Falcon’s Nest Preschool. Please dress your child in comfortable clothing. If wearing a dress or skirt, please dress your daughter with shorts underneath. Comfortable and safe shoes should be worn daily (no flip flops or crocs). Please keep a sweater in your child’s cubby at all times.

Attendance/Arrival/Dismissal:

A consistent routine is imperative for your child to be successful in this program. Please bring your child to school daily and on time.

If your child will be absent for the day, please call the preschool to inform the teachers of his/her absence (305)408-2700 ext. 2245 or e-mail Mrs. Slater (nicoleslater@) or Mrs. Trelles-Diaz (ltrelles@) .

Preschoolers must be dropped off and picked up by an adult (not a student attending John A. Ferguson Sr. High). The preschool will be open every morning at 7:00 am. All children must be in school by 8:00am.

All community preschoolers must be picked up between 1:50 and 2:10pm at the parent loop. Dismissal for the children of faculty will be 2:20pm. Accommodations will be made for faculty meetings.

A $5 fee will be charged for late pick up. The late pick-up charge will be applied to the following month’s tuition.

Please use your Falcon’s Nest Preschool Security Pass to enter and exit the school building.

Naps and Rest Time:

Each day after lunch there is quiet rest time. Some children may need sleep while others may need only to rest. Quiet, restful music is played during this time. We provide the cots and sheets that are assigned exclusively to each child and washed on a weekly basis.

Discipline:

We believe that when children are actively engaged in meaningful learning activities there is little room for inappropriate behavior. It is our job to provide such activities, as well as to design an environment that will promote appropriate behavior and self-discipline. We will use behavior modification techniques that are designed to be learning experiences.

Emergencies/Illnesses:

In the event of an emergency, Falcon’s Nest Preschool has the right to call 911 and take any child to the nearest hospital. Parents/guardians will be contacted immediately.

Change of Clothes: Please make sure to keep a change of clothes in your child’s cubby in case of an accident (shirt, bottom, socks, and underwear).

• If your child is showing symptoms of an illness, please refrain from bringing him/her to school. We want to prevent spreading illnesses among all the children, teachers, and high school students.

• Lice: Should lice be discovered in your child’s hair during the school day, you will be contacted. Your child must be picked up immediately. Your child may not return to school until lice treatment has been completed. All parents will be notified if there is an occurrence.

Secondary Early Release Days:

Secondary teachers are required to attend workshops on Early Release Days. On these specified dates (on calendar), the high school students are released at 12:30. The preschool hours will remain the same. The children will be supervised by our part-time Teacher Aides as well as high school student volunteers.

Special Events:

Birthday parties can be celebrated during lunch time. Please arrive at 11:15am to begin the festivities.

*Please see attached Theme Schedule for Special Events of the year.

*Field Trips are taken to give the children an opportunity to have extra-curricular, cultural and educational experiences. The field trips also provide an opportunity for the high school students to gain experience on the procedures of conducting a field trip with young children. One chaperone per child is welcome to attend the field trip providing they have completed the online volunteer registration through Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The cost of the field trips will be announced.

To become a school volunteer, each chaperone must register online at . See attached instructions.
