Rain gardenS

In late 2020, the City of Lake Elmo notified MI Homes that some remediation work would need to occur on the

rain gardens to address the problems with erosion. In the spring of this year an acceptable plan was agreed

upon that would address the biggest areas of concern. MI initiated this work in June and after various hiccups

including a drought and a labor shortage, we are very pleased to report that the work is completed. The City has

approved and provided final sign off on the 3rd addition at their October council meeting. It is important to note

that this remediation work and re-mulching of the rain gardens was at no cost to the association.

A couple large scale rain storms occurred in late summer and we were able to make some observations

regarding the modified rain gardens¡¯ performance. In general, they handled the large inflow of water much

better than before and likely would have done even better if all of the silt in the culverts from previous years

had been cleared out prior. We will continue to monitor and expect that in the future we will need to make

some additional tweaks for some areas that still experience erosion.

For those residents who live on the western section of Upper 9th Place, we are aware of the poor condition of

many of the trees and plantings and the missing benches. At this time, the association is unable to do anything

in this area as it is still the responsibility of MI Homes. We have shared our observations with them and made

the city aware as well. Feel free to contact MI Homes directly if you¡¯d like to share any of your own

observations or if you have any plantings in your yard that might be covered under MI warranty.

Irrigation system winterization

In case you haven¡¯t had it done already, here¡¯s a friendly reminder to get your irrigation system winterized.

Homeowners are responsible for the irrigation system for their home and may maintain the system themselves

or use a vendor of their choice.

Driveway plowing

SNOW! Farmers¡¯ Almanac says that we aren¡¯t getting any this year; however, just in case, we have it covered.

The Association contracts with Horticulture Services to provide plowing services for homeowner driveways and

Lake Elmo handles snow removal for all of the streets in our neighborhood. Driveways will be plowed for

snowfalls that exceed a 1¡± depth. The contractor is required to remove snow from the driveway within 12-18

hours after snow ceases, depending upon snow depth. We were very pleased with the service this past winter as

snow was removed very timely and much earlier than required. Small plow marker stakes will be placed to help

mark the edge for their plow equipment.

Please be aware that your driveway may not be plowed if you left your car in the driveway; you will then be

responsible for clearing the snow yourself. Also, the contractor is not responsible for ice removal and does not

apply any salt to driveways. If you encounter any issues with the plowing please contact First Service. We ask

that you do not communicate directly with the snow removal staff concerning any problems that arise.
