Introduction

This essay will answer the following questions concerning the multinational corporation of FedEx Express. How do the changing technology and the falling barriers to trade and investment reflect the success of this company? How does the company show corporate social responsibility in terms of labor conditions, human rights, fair trade, and the environment? What actions can a multinational corporation take that would make globalization a positive development for the global economy?

Falling Barriers of Trade

Most of the international business that FedEx does is with Canada (FedEx, 2016a). There are offices that are located in Canada that facilitate the transporting of packages. As well, Canadians if they are using a service such as as an example can have their packages through computer technology to find out exactly when their packages would be arriving. Coupled with this computer technology using as an example for purchase delivery, there is usually an estimated timeframe given for the delivery of a package and/or packages in order to ensure that the time limits and the time lines are met for delivering the package.

Corporate Social Responsibility

FedEx is committed to corporate social responsibility (FedEx, 2016c). They have a code of business conduct and ethics where each and every one of the employees of FedEx must pass criminal records check that is stringent in order to ensure that their packages are delivered safely. The company also has a stringent recycling policy to ensure that they are being good to the environment and encourage such environmental awareness amongst their internal office operations as well as their external package handling operations. One of the most important activities that FedEx is involved with is combatting slavery and human trafficking:

FedEx is committed to the zero-tolerance policies adopted by the U.S. and other governments to combat slavery or the trafficking of persons for any purpose. FedEx prohibits trafficking-related activities and we expect our suppliers and contractors to uphold these important principles, as well. FedEx encourages the reporting of any suspected violations through the FedEx Alert Line or other channel, and our policies forbid any form of retaliation for fulfilling this obligation. For more information, please see our Policy Prohibiting Trafficking in Persons (FedEx, 2016c).

FedEx is also committed to data security and privacy, as well as public policy engagement.

Globalization as a Positive Development

Access is critically important to nations. Nations thrive or stagnate depending on their level of access to inputs (i.e., raw materials, machinery, and components, technology, finance, etc.) that supply their economies, as well as their level of access to markets for the goods and services they produce. This report is the fourth of a series that explores the nature, opportunities, and benefits generated by access, based on research and analysis conducted by SRI International and commissioned by FedEx Corporation. This report concentrates on nations as one of the three key beneficiaries of access, and it examines the opportunities that access provides for nations to improve their performance and future prospects (FedEx, 2016b).
