2095523436000NEWS FROMFor Immediate Release:June 28, 2016FIDELITY NAMES BANKING HALL IN HONOUR OF SIR DURWARD KNOWLES Nassau, Bahamas: Fidelity Bank (Bahamas) Limited recently dedicated its Cable Beach Banking Hall in honour of Sir Durward “Seawolf” Knowles. The official ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 15th, 2016. Sir Durward Randolph Knowles is a retired sailor and the oldest living Olympic champion. He competed at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where he won a gold medal in the Star class, together with Cecil Cooke. He has written two autobiographies – ‘Driven by the Stars’ the story of his earlier years in sailing and ‘Captain of Industry’ published in 2014, which explores his later years.Despite his many accomplishments, Sir Durward is perhaps best known, for his commitment to community service. He serves on various committees, including Honorary Vice President, Charity Guide No.37; Co-Chairman, One Bahamas, Member of Ebenezer Methodist Trustees, President of Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled and Past President Rotary Club of East Nassau. He, along with Bobby Symonette, were founders of BASRA. He is also well known as a philanthropist, donating to several charities and individuals and also to local regattas. He is also the recipient of Rotary International’s Service Above Self Award.Fidelity Bank CEO, Anwer Sunderji, said commended Sir Durward for his vision and leadership in helping to build a community where there is opportunity for any Bahamian, no matter the ability, to succeed in various fields – from athletics to academics to the arts. Naming the branch after Sir Durward, according to Mr. Sunderji, is in line with Fidelity Bank’s philosophy. “Like Sir Durward, we are committed to empowering persons.
