Do all NBPS offer a preschool program?Before filling out paperwork, remember not all elementary schools have preschool classes and there is no transportation provided. It is your responsibility to get the student to school on time.What is the first thing I need to do to enroll my child into preschool?Fill Out one of our Intake forms found in room 105 at our County Street location or on our webpage and email it to our Early Childhood Specialist.What happens after I have filled out the enrollment form?Your child will be placed on a waitlist and assigned a number. When your number has reached the top of the list, an appointment will be scheduled to have the student screened with the Battelle Screener to rule out any learning disabilities by trained special needs teachers.After I receive a call for a screening, what should I do?Come to the scheduled screening appointment with the student on time. Only 15 minutes will be aloud of late arrivals. The parent will be asked if the student is exposed to any other language other than English. If the parent answer yes on several questions on the Home Language Survey form, the student will have a second screening to determine their language dominate level according to their age (Pre-Las or Pre-IPT). The student at this time will be screened in the areas of communication, motor, and cognitive using the Battelle Screener. Once the screening is completed, the screener will score the student’s screening booklet and report the findings to the parent including ASQ, Battelle, and Pre-IPT or Pre-Las results.What happens after the screening is completed?If the student passes the screening, the next step is the nurse will check all the documentation and clear the student for school. If the student does not pass the screening, the screener will discuss the test and the weak areas. If concerns are agreed on by both the parent and screener, a referral will be sent to our Special Needs Preschool Office or Doctor’s Office.Where will my child be placed?Once the paper is completed and the student has completed all screenings, the student will be place in one of our preschool classrooms as soon as there is an opening. Students will be placed in their neighborhood school, if openings are available. If the child’s neighborhood does not have preschool or if the neighborhood school is full, then the next available school will be offered for placement. What are the times for preschool?We offer mostly part-day programs either mornings 8:10-11:30 (M, T, TH, F) or afternoons 11:30-2:30 (M, T, W, TH). We do have limited full day slots 8:10-2:30(M, T, W, TH) and 8:10-11:30 (F) except Hay-Mac, Parker, and Renaissance (which you need to live in the district to attend these schools.What is the process when my child transitions from preschool to kindergarten?When the student turns 5 years old or will be 5 by September 1st of that year, the classroom teacher will go through the cum record and locate the neighborhood school which the student will attend. The cum will be sent to the neighborhood school and the parent will receive a Kindergarten Welcome Day Pack from the Welcome Center. If the student had a language screening such as the Pre-IPT or Pre-Las, a Model test will be administered to the student prior to attending their neighborhood school to determine the EL Level and placement. ................
