Video Filming Guide

[Pages:2]Video Filming Guide

This guide is designed to help you film the best quality videos for Gardeners World. These are technical, as well as filming tips, to ensure you show off your garden to its best.

Although all these tips are important ? nothing matters more than you and your garden. So don't get too bogged down in all the technical details. We want to see your passion and love for the things you grow.

Key Points

Landscape Camera - To broadcast on TV, we need landscape footage (not portrait). Make sure your phone is on its side.

Film Full High Definition (1080) ? You need to set the recording quality to 1080 pixels, also known as Full High Definition. On your phone camera, look for option labelled FHD or 1080.

Audio ? Avoid filming on really windy days. If there are any unexpected noises, like planes, cars or building work, start again.

You ? Most importantly, we need to see you! No matter how lovely your gardening project is, if we don't see the person who made it, it won't be the same. So please include yourself in the film.

Shot Sizes

To make an interesting film, it's important to film a range of shot sizes. Try to include Wide and Medium Shots, as well as Close Ups.

Wide Shots are useful for seeing the whole garden, veg bed, or whatever you're showing us. Medium Shots are great for seeing you talking to camera. And Close-Ups are brilliant for details. Film lots of CloseUps, we can't get enough shots of your plants. Please film each close-up for at least 5 seconds.

Scene Breakdown

You're video needs an Introduction, Activity and Conclusion. These are the beginning, middle and end of your video and will help give your video a structure. This is only a guide though, if you want to try something different, go for it!

Don't worry about editing your video. We would rather you send us all the footage you've filmed and we'll edit together. Please don't add any music or captions, as we'll have to take them off.

Introduction

We want to know a bit about you and why you love gardening. Whether you've been gardening for fifty years or five minutes, let us know what you love about your garden.

o Who are you? And where are you? o How long have you been gardening? o What are you going to show us today?

Activity

This is where you show us what you're up to. It could be showing off something you're really proud of, or doing a job in the garden. If you're doing a job, film the process twice, once in a Medium Shot so we can see your face and once in a Close Up of your hands. So we can see the detail of what you're doing.

o What are you doing? What tips and tricks do you have? o What will happen next? Look ahead to later in the year o What do you enjoy about this process?

Conclusion

Here is your chance to show us the final steps of your job and tell us how you feel about it. Take a step back and review your handiwork.

o What do you need to do next and when? o Tell us what gardening means to you at this strange time o A quick sign off and goodbye
