Internship Description: Up to three interns will be selected to participate in the City of Hopkinsville’s college student internship program designed to encourage Hopkinsville natives to return to their hometown to work after college. Applicants will be selected through a competitive application and interview process and gain meaningful, real-world experience in one of three departments: Administration, Fire & EMS, and Public Works. Priority will be given to students from Hopkinsville or Christian, Todd or Trigg Counties.Offices are located in the Municipal Center, Fire Department, Public Works Complex, and other locations in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. This is a paid internship and the working hours are 30 hours a week over seven weeks from June 1 through July 17.The City of Hopkinsville was settled in 1796 by a North Carolina couple, Bartholomew and Martha Ann Wood. Hopkinsville, the seat of Christian County, has since grown to a population of 32,205 making it the 9th largest city in Kentucky. Located a short drive from Land Between the Lakes; Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park; Nashville, TN; Fort Campbell, KY; Paducah, KY; and Evansville, IN, Hopkinsville has tremendous access to the arts, cultural & sporting events, shopping, and recreational opportunities while maintaining a strong sense of local community.The City of Hopkinsville serves the community by employing more than 280 people in the fields of Police, Fire, Grounds & Streets Maintenance, Finance & Administration, and Parks & Recreation and operates on a $37 million annual budget. Example Experience, Job Functions, and Responsibilities include:Administration Department Finance Division Assist with revenue collection initiatives surrounding code enforcement, business license audits, and other projects.Candidates should be seeking a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other related fields.Job Requirements:Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.Possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Be self-directed and motivated.Proficiency in Microsoft Office software is a plus.All applicants must submit a resume and cover letter.Transportation to and from the internship environment.Our internship is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled at an accredited college or university and who will be continuing their undergraduate studies in the fall.
