Setting Up Word for Effective Grammar Check
[Pages:3]Setting Up Word for Effective Grammar Check
Most individuals know of the wonderful spell checking capabilities of Microsoft's Word. The program does offer one of the best--though incomplete--grammar checkers available, based on my attempt to find a program for students. Word's grammar check unfortunately does not set up automatically. You need only a few minutes to set up Word and it will catch many common grammar errors, such as excessive use of passive voice, incomplete sentences, comma splices, noun-verb agreement, improper punctuation. Follow these steps.
1. Click the File in the upper left-hand corner. You will see the following window:
2. Now click options and you will open the following window.
3. Now click Proofing to get to this window.
4. Go to the section with the heading: "When correcting spelling and grammar in Word." You will see a Settings... button. Click it and the following window will appear.
5. Go to the Require section. In the first box select "always." In the second, click "inside." In the third, check "1." Then drop to the Grammar section. Check every box. You will need to scroll down to see the almost four dozen boxes. Then click OK until you close out all the windows. Done.
