Song Form Project Overview and STEP 1 INSTRUCTIONS For this project, you will choose a song, analyze its form, and exhibit your understanding of the form. You may work individually or in groups for this project. You will create a power point presentation for your final product.ASSIGNMENT PART I - Today you will review the concepts of form that we have previously discussed, then select a song, find lyrics for it, and space them into different sections.Choose a song that you will analyze. Please make sure it is a song that is school appropriate. When in doubt pick something different.Search the internet for lyrics to your song. Once you find them, paste the lyrics into a word document.Start formatting the lyrics into sections – don’t worry about labeling them as Verse, Chorus, etc. yet. Instead, just make sure they are organized into groups of lyrics for each section. The lyrics may be formatted like this already, depending on what website they came from. However, DON’T TRUST THE INTERNET!!! It is likely that you will need to use your ears to make adjustments/additions to the lyrics and or their format!!! Make sure that lyrics from all repeated sections are rewritten when they occur in the song. For example, often on the internet, then chorus words are only written out once (the first time) and referred to only as “Chorus” later in the song. Your job is to copy the lyrics for the chorus (or any other repeating section) and paste them where they belong in the song. Now, start trying to label the different sections of the lyrics (verse, chorus, etc.). Add numbers to the verses and other sections if necessary. For example, if the 3 verses of the song have different lyrics each time, call them verse 1, verse 2, and verse 3. If the pre-chorus has different lyrics each time it is hear, label them pre-chorus 1, pre-chorus 2 and pre-chorus 3. IF A CERTAIN SECTION OF THE SONG HAS THE SAME LYRICS EACH TIME IT IS HEARD, YOU DO NOT NEED TO ADD A NUMBER. Ex – if the chorus of the song has the same lyrics each time, it should be labeled CHORUS, not CHORUS 1, CHORUS 2 & CHORUS 3. Now listen for the instrumental sections and other unique sections that may occur at different times throughout the song, such as INTROS, INSTRUMENTAL SOLOS, INTERLUDES, and OUTROS. On your word document, insert those terms wherever appropriate. Figure out what type of ending your song and label by using the terms OUTRO, TAG and/or VAMP if necessary. Find a recording of your song and label the starting timecode for each section of the song. If you leave and then come back remember to use the same recording each time you listen to it. The number represents the minutes and seconds at which that section starts, NOT HOW LONG THE SECTION IS. See the example below: Rascal Flatts – Life is a HighwayIntro (0:00)Whoooumm yeah...Verse 1 (0:29)Life's like a road that you travel onWhen there's one day here and the next day goneSometimes you bend, sometimes you standSometimes you turn your back to the windThere's a world outside ev'ry darkened doorWhere blues won't haunt you anymoreWhere brave are free and lovers soarCome ride with me to the distant shorePre-Chorus 1 (0:49)We won't hesitateTo break down the garden gateThere's not much time left todayChorus (0:58)Life is a highwayI wanna ride it all night longIf you're going my wayI wanna drive it all night longOnce you have labeled each section with the time codes and checked to see if you feel you have analyzed the form correctly and included everything, share your word document with Mrs. DiVasto. Song form Presentation Step 2 will be our next lesson. ................
