Work for April 20th – 24th 2020Junior InfantsEnglishOral workExplore vocabulary related to the Doctor –e.g. thermometer, stethoscope, syringe, tongue depressor, waiting room, surgery etc.Recall visits to the doctor – who went with you? What did you do in the waiting room? How did you feel while you were waiting? Etc.Remember when we discussed medicines. When can we take medicine? Why do we never take anything out of the medicine cupboard on our own? Etc.Look at the video on Class Dojo of teacher reading ‘Doctor Fen at Number Ten’. Answer the following questions orally;Who are the main characters in the story?How do you think the girls felt about missing out on their adventure day?Do you think Doctor Fen is a nice doctor?Can you name two things she had on her tray?Name the main setting of the story. Sight wordsLook at (some of) the new words at the back of GG Is Too Big and practice reading them. Write some new words onto cards and play games like ‘snap’ or ‘find the matching pairs’.Make up sentences using the new words.Reading Summarise what has happened in the book so far.Imagine how the different characters might be feeling. Put yourself into the story and think about what you would do in the various situations.Be a word detective. See if you can find the new words in the book.
