PGA of America Spouses and PGA TOUR Wives Association Make Lasting Impact on Rochester

Habitat for Humanity Home in JOSANA Neighborhood Will Serve as a Legacy

of 95th PGA Championship

ROCHESTER, N.Y., August 7, 2013 – Today, while pros worked the course at the 95th PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, nearly 100 volunteers from PGA of America Spouses and PGA TOUR Wives Association members swung hammers to change the life of a local family.

In a first-of-its-kind effort, the two organizations partnered together to work with Flower City Habitat for Humanity on a “blitz build” – building a three-bedroom home in one week. The home, located in Rochester’s JOSANA neighborhood, was dedicated today to the Galletti family.

“Flower City Habitat for Humanity has provided us with an amazing opportunity to make a long-term impact here,” said PGA TOUR Wives representative, Meagan Laird. “Though we may be here to support our loved ones on the course, we also want to help build something in support of the Rochester community.”

“Between The PGA of America Spouses and PGA TOUR Wives, we have so many dedicated individuals who are passionate about making lives better,” said Cindy Bishop, PGA of America Spouses. “We are thrilled to be working together to help a Rochester family, and to make an impact that will last long after the conclusion of the 95th PGA Championship.”

After breaking ground in early June and setting the foundation in the weeks that followed, the home, located at 170 Whitney Street in Rochester’s JOSANA neighborhood, has awaited the arrival of the PGA of America Spouses and PGA TOUR Wives Association this week to finalize the build.

“Providing safe and affordable homes for the Rochester community would not be possible without the support of partners like The PGA of America Spouses and PGA TOUR Wives Association,” said Arthur Woodward, CEO of Flower City Habitat for Humanity. “They are great partners and The PGA Habitat Build house demonstrates their commitment to our community. Home ownership provides a solid foundation for families and revitalizes neighborhoods.”

The Galletti family has received a 30-year, interest-free mortgage to pay for the house, and has committed to contributing 450 hours of labor, half on their own home and half towards building other Habitat houses.

In fall 2007, Flower City Habitat for Humanity launched a major, multi-year, 100-house commitment to the JOSANA neighborhood. At the completion of the 2013-14 build season, Flower City Habitat will have completed 41 houses of the 100 house commitment.
