• Currently, nine percent or 798,912 customers in Florida remain without power due to Hurricane Jeanne. Outages from Hurricane Ivan have been reduced to 26,214. See tables below for county outages and restoration schedules.

PECO Crews Work Around the Clock to Respond to Jeanne's Damage; Utility Provides Important Safety Info to Customers

Following the damaging effects of tropical storm Jeanne, PECO crews have been working throughout the night to repair extensive damage and restore electricity to more than 37,000 customers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. As of 11 a.m., about 8,700 customers remain without service. Because of the extensive and widespread storm damage, PECO estimates that each individual job will take about four hours to repair damage and restore service to customers. PECO expects that electricity will be restored to all customers by late evening tonight.

Pacific DC Intertie to Shut for Long Term Outage Thursday

The DC Intertie, a key link between the Pacific Northwest and southern California, is due to be briefly shut late Wednesday and enter a long-term outage on Thursday. It is due to be shut for the entire fourth quarter, limiting the flow of power south into the region's most populous area.

Both the 285 MW Lakeview 5 unit and the 490 MW Nanticoke 1 unit shut on Wednesday for short-term forced outages of approximately one week.

Duke's Calif. Moss Landing 7 Gas Unit Back in Service

Duke Energy Corp.'s 755-megawatt Moss Landing 7 natural gas-fired power unit in California returned to service by early Wednesday, the California Independent System Operator said in a report. Reuters, 1056 September 29, 2004

N.J. Salem 1 Nuke Back at Full Power

Public Service Enterprise Group Inc.'s 1,150 megawatt Salem 1 nuclear unit in New Jersey was back at full power early Wednesday, up from just 19 percent of capacity early Tuesday, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said in its power reactor status report. The unit was shut Sept. 25 for work on part of the feed water valves called positioners, a spokesman for the plant said previously. Reuters, 0727 September 29, 2004

Hatch 2 Nuclear-Power Plant Shut Down, Company Says

Southern Company’s 924 MW Hatch 2 nuclear unit in GA was on Saturday to repair a leak in a safety release valve. Before returning the plant to service testing showed that a main steam isolation valve was not working properly. The plant remains shut down while investigation is in progress.

Electric Grid Updrade Project Moves Forward in CA

A $323 million project designed to ease energy gridlock in California is powering forward, according to the federal agency overseeing the work. The Path 15 upgrade involves laying 83 miles of transmission lines in the Central Valley. "We're still scheduled to come on line by the end of the year," LaVerne Kyriss, a spokeswoman for the Western Area Power Administration, said Monday.

Rocky Mountain Group to Propose $4.2-Bil of Transmission Projects

A transmission study group for the Rocky Mountain region recommended that two

major transmission lines be built to connect potential coal-fired and wind

generation to West Coast markets, according to a report released Tuesday. The

report by the Rocky Mountain Area Transmission Study (RMATS) recommends

spending $4.26-bil on three regional projects and two 500-kV "export"

transmission lines.

29% of Oil Production from Gulf of Mexico is Still Shut-in Two Weeks After Ivan

DOE Says to Loan ConocoPhillips 1.5-Mil bbl of SPR Crude

The US Department of Energy will lend ConocoPhillips 1.5-mil bbl of crude from

the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to make up for the shortfall in US Gulf of

Mexico production resulting from the passage of Hurricane Ivan earlier this

month, the DOE reported and ConocoPhillips confirmed late Tuesday.



Explorer Pipeline to Shut 2 Days Because of Leak

The Explorer Pipeline said on Tuesday it shut its Gulf Coast-to-Tulsa, Oklahoma, section of its oil products pipeline at about noon CDT (1700 GMT) because of a leak. It will take an estimated two days to fix the leak and resume flow on the 660,000 barrels per day line to Tulsa, said Rod Sands, vice president and chief operating officer for Explorer. The 28-inch line runs from Houston to Glenpool, Oklahoma, near Tulsa. Deliveries into Glenpool are expected to be suspended until repairs are made.

Kinder Morgan Resumes CA Pipeline Operations

Pipeline operator Kinder Morgan Energy Partners L.P. said it has resumed operations on two of its California refined products pipelines after shipments were temporarily halted following an earthquake earlier on Tuesday. Shipments along pipelines between Concord, Fresno, San Jose and Bakersfield, California, were halted after a late-morning earthquake struck near Parkfield, California. The stoppage was precautionary and there were no indications of pressure loss that might indicate a crack or rupture in the pipelines, Kinder Morgan spokesman Rick Rainey said. Oil prices slid from record highs above $50 a barrel Wednesday as the U.S. government reported a surprise increase in crude stocks and rebels in Nigeria's oil-rich delta region agreed to a preliminary cease-fire with the government.

FERC OKs Expansion of Still-in-Progress Cheyenne Plains Pipeline

Cheyenne Plains Gas Pipeline, a subsidiary of El Paso Corp., hasn't even finished constructing its 380-mile line to deliver Rocky Mountain natural gas supplies to eastern marketers, and FERC has issued a certificate to expand the system.

The NYMEX October gas futures contract rolled off the board up 46.1 cts to settle at $5.723/MMBtu due to a massive, unanticipated short covering rally, sources said.

NYMEX Opens at $6.90/MM Btu Due to Ivan Cuts, Technical Indicators

Spurred by ongoing speculation surrounding Hurricane Ivan's ultimate damage in

the US Gulf of Mexico and strong technical indicators, the November NYMEX gas

futures contract opened 54.9 cts higher at $6.90/MMBtu Wednesday.

MMS and US Coast Guard Sign Agreement In response to a changing ocean industry including heightened interest in liquefied natural gas terminals and increased security requirements, the Minerals Management Service and the U.S. Coast Guard will sign a revised Memorandum of Understanding tomorrow that details how the two agencies will work together to regulate the oil and gas activities on the Outer Continental Shelf.
