Income Maintenance Caseworker II (IMC II)

General Statement of Duties

The general purpose of the Economic Services Division of the Polk County Consolidated Health and Human Services Agency is to provide available economic services and food assistance to adults, families and children in Polk County.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for determining eligibility for the Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) Program and for conducting re-determination reviews with on-going cases to determine continued eligibility for the FNS Program according to federal, state and local policies and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Tasks

❖ The worker is responsible for conducting interviews with applicants and on-going clients to collect all of the required information in order to make a determination of eligibility according to regulations.

❖ The worker is responsible for reading and implementing FNS policies and procedures.

❖ This position requires extensive work on the computer, running on-line verifications, checking various state and local databases, and keying information into the state network.

❖ The worker is responsible for meeting federal, state, and local unit deadlines. Duties include verification of continued eligibility for the FNS Program according to policies and procedures.

❖ As with all positions with the Department of Social Services, this position is mandatory to serve in shelters in time of natural and man-made disasters including overnight and weekends.

Other Duties As Assigned

❖ Other duties will be assigned and may include but not be limited to participation in community outreach and educational efforts and as a member of various agency workgroups

All HHSA employees may be called upon to perform work during emergency or disaster situations including but not limited to staffing shelters overnight. This service, if required, will take precedence over duties described in this position description.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks. Careful visual attention to details and excellent mental concentration are essential. Precision and accuracy in issuance of benefits must be exact in order to administer the programs and provide benefits to those who are eligible, without adverse actions such as errors and overpayments.

Minimum Requirements and Experience

❖ One-year experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; OR

❖ Graduation from an accredited Associate Degree program in Human Services or closely related curriculum, OR

❖ High School graduate / equivalency and two years paraprofessional clerical or public contact experience – an equivalent combination of training and experience.

❖ Successful pre-employment drug screen.

❖ Successful pre-employment criminal background check.

Physical Demands:

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, driving, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
