Service Member PCS Travel Time Computation when Travel is by Mixed Mode - POV Travel Distance Less than Official Distance, Three
Modes (JTR, par. 050205-B)
Note: The rates and costs in this example may not be current and are for illustrative purposes only.
Scenario: The official distance between authorized travel points is 1,500 miles. A Service member travels 800 miles by personally owned vehicle (POV), 600 miles by rail, and 900 miles by air.
Step Action
Determine the official distance between
1 authorized travel points by using the Defense
Table of Official Distances (DTOD).
Divide the distance in Step 1 by 350 to
determine the number of authorized travel days.
2 If the remainder is equal to or greater than 51, 1
additional travel day is allowed. The result is
the maximum number of authorized travel days.
Determine the actual number of miles a POV
3 was used between the official points (the
distance traveled to a leave point is included).
If the result of Step 3 is greater than the result
of Step 1, then the authorized travel is the result
of Step 1 and no further computation is
4
required. If the result of Step 3 is less than the result of Step 1, and at least 350 miles, then
divide by 350. If the excess distance is equal to
or greater than 51, 1 additional travel day is
authorized.
5
Allow 1 day for travel by air, train, or bus transportation.
Add Step 4 and Step 5 together, to determine
6 the authorized travel time, limited to the
maximum in Step 2.
Compare Step 6 with the maximum number of
7 authorized travel days in Step 2 and use the
lesser of the two.
Total authorized travel time:
Calculation 1,500 miles
1,500?350 =4, remainder 100
800 miles
800?350 =2, remainder 100
1 day 3+1=4 4 vs. 5
Result 1,500 miles
5 maximum travel days
800 miles
3 days
1 day 4 days 4 days 4 days

Service Member PCS Travel Time Computation when Travel is by Mixed Mode - POV Travel Distance Less than Official Distance, Three
Modes (JTR, par. 050205-B)
Scenario: The official distance between authorized travel points is 385 miles. A Service member travels 200 miles by POV and 500 miles by air.
Step Action
Determine the official distance between
1 authorized travel points by using the Defense
Table of Official Distances (DTOD).
Divide the distance in Step 1 by 350 to
determine the number of authorized travel days.
