2020 Census Self-Response Weekly Highlights

NORTHWEST GEORGIA TEAM

The Floyd County Complete Count Committee hosted a Census Motorcade on May 15th on the busiest thoroughfares in the City of Rome. The Rome Police led the parade by stopping traffic at each intersection. City Manager Sammy Rich pulled a large digital sign that said, "It's Safe and Easy. Complete your Census Today. My2020census. gov," and was followed by the Rome Fire Department in a shiny red engine with sirens and lights flashing. Commissioners, city staff, business owners and community members followed in their cars waving signs and honking horns. The motorcade was captured on Facebook Live by the Convention and Visitors Bureau. The goal was to share a moment of joy and fun while remaining socially distant and sharing the message that everyone counts. A nice article was featured in the Sunday Rome News Tribune by the unofficial Grand Marshall of the Parade, Lifestyles Editor, Severo Avila.

NORTHEAST GEORGIA TEAM

The Center for Pan Asian Community Services (CPACS) and the National Association of Asian American Professionals - Atlanta (NAAA-Atlanta) hosted a fun and informative virtual session, "Why is Everyone Talking about the U.S. Census?" on Thursday, April 16, 2020. The virtual event covered what the Census is, how to fill out the Census questionnaire, the benefits of participating in the Census, and how attendees can help to make sure the AAPI community is counted here in Georgia.

CENTRAL GEORGIA TEAM

The City of East Point hosted "SHOP TALK," A Virtual Barber Shop Discussion and Its Impact on Black Men, on Friday, May 15th on Facebook Live. The approximately hour and a half conversation featuring prominent leaders in the African American community and moderated by Partnership Specialist Alex Lima garnered over 2,800 views and more than two dozen shares on Facebook.

SOUTH GEORGIA TEAM Chattahoochee/ Fort Benning Military Outreach

Fort Benning launched media and soldier/marine outreach for those stationed on base, expanding outreach to the veteran community. Fort Benning supports more than 120,000 active-duty military, family members, reserve component soldiers, retirees, and civilian employees on a daily basis. Their Public Affairs Office is using the Census Media Toolkit, promoting the 2020 Census through Facebook, the base digital billboard, and e-blasting to major commands.
