 Deaf History Month ProjectAs you know, Deaf Awareness Month is observed in September, while Deaf History Month is observed from March 13-April 15. To help you better understand Deaf history and to make others aware, we will be doing a project in honor of the month. Below are some options to complete for the project. Must have:At least 3 pictures At least 5 sentence paragraph with information about the place/movement/”holiday”Why people should go there/observe the “holiday”/ join the movementIf you do the project on one of the schools you can either choose to make it for people to attend the school or as a historical site to visit (travel information).Must be neat and colorful. You know my expectations of this. Can be printed or handwritten. Plan a Celebration -- Plan out a day filled with activities for someone to observe Deaf History Month. You can do this on a poster OR BROCHURE. You could plan activities the person doesn’t have to travel for, or you could plan a vacation to an important place in Deaf History (for instance, Gallaudet, Martha’s Vineyard, TSD, or ASD). Must have:At least 5 things to do that will help the person observe the “holiday”A picture that represents each activityA short explanation of what you will be doing there and why.Must be neat and colorful. You know my expectations of this. If it’s on a poster, it can be typed or handwritten. If it’s on a brochure, it must be typed.Other Projects: 5 points each -- (You MUST choose at least 1, but you can choose as many as you want.)Acrostic Poem -- Write an acrostic poem about one of the people mentioned in your essay (it can be the same person as the poster). You can use their first name or last name. It can be on any size paper or poster board (no notebook paper). If they have a short nickname like I. King Jordan, Bill (William), or Bob(Robert), you must use their real name. If they are famously known by a nickname that is longer than 4 letters, you may use that. If their real first name is 4 letters or less, you must use their last name (and vis versa). If both of their names are 4 letters or less each, use their first and last name. It must be handwritten with colorful markers/sharpies.Include a picture of the person (printed or drawn). On the back, or separate sheet of paper, write why you chose each word or phrase to represent that person. (Please take the time to think about these and don’t just put random words. Also, don’t use baby words like “nice” or “good.” I will take off for baby words.) Example: Helpful She helped establish blind schools all over the world. Deaf History Month T-shirt -- Create a tshirt design that someone could wear during Deaf History Month. Think of a design that would be fun to wear and would get people asking about Deaf History Month. It can include words, pictures, or both. You can draw the shirt or create it on “paint” on the computer and print it out (or on an iPad app). Must be colorful and neat. (No, you do not have to get the shirt made. You are just “designing” it.)3. Deaf History Month Commercial (More than 5 points available) -- Make a video advertising Deaf History Month. Get creative! If it’s just a simple video of you talking about Deaf History Month, that is worth 5 points. If you put a lot of effects or come up with a script, it can be up to 20 points depending on how much time and effort went into it. It must be 2-6 minutes long. Email your video to me through . Let me know immediately that you sent the email because it deletes after a certain amount of time. 4. Word Search or Crossword Puzzle -- Create a wordsearch (5 points) or crossword puzzle (10 points) online about Deaf History Month and/or about your essay. You can google “free crossword puzzle maker” to find a free and easy place to do this. You must print it out. (5 extra points if you can get someone in your school who is not in ASL to complete the puzzle.) The word search must have at least 15 words and the crossword puzzle must have at least 10 words. ................
