With your help, we can build the confidence of local people who do not have English as a first language enabling them to gain more independence in their lives, move on to a formal ESOL qualification or just to have the chance to meet and socialise with other people., enabling them to??????? residents in performing everyday tasks online, like connecting with friends and family, and accessing essential online services. We’ll support and train you with the guidance you need to help people at our centre, giving you a chance to develop your own confidence and skills too.too. Our service users are the focus of our services, some are potentially vulnerable and many have high support needs. For these reasons, we make decisions on volunteering based on the needs and best interests of our users. We endeavour to train and support all our volunteers in their roles. About the RoleSessionsDrop-in Sessions Sessions will take place on Thursdays. Learners will attend a 2-2 hour session, either from 10-12 or 12.30-14.30. Potential volunteers can choose either a morning or afternoon session or if you have more time, then you could volunteer at both morning and afternoon sessions.Learners will be assigned tollocated a group according to their level of English: Aabsolute Bbeginners, Bbeginners, Eentry 1 or Eentry 21. The Renewal Programme hosts Digital Drop-in sessions twice a week, between 11am-2pm on Tuesday and Fridays. The sessions are open to people who are digitally excluded (this might mean they do not have access to devices, data or lack basic digital skills) and offer a space where they can use the on-site devices or bring their own laptops and tablets. Volunteer tasks may will include: Planning the sessionsFacilitating English conversation classesthe 2h sessions Monitoring learner attendance Makinge refreshments for participantsProviding users with an opportunity to maintain and enhance their digital skills. The volunteer will be responsible for overseeing the session; assisting and responding to requests for support from users as they arise. To respond to enquiries and requests from people as appropriate. To ensure the space and equipment is set up for the session. To ensure a register is taken of the attendees. To assist the Project Coordinator in taking referrals to receive a device. ?To assist the Project Coordinator to set-up devices (laptops and tablets) and data packages to hand out to referees. To assist the Project Coordinator in giving out devices and data to referees at the Digital Hub. ?On occasion, to chat to referees over the phone or via Zoom (if they are unable to come into the centre) to help them get set up with their device and offer digital skills support. Sessions are Tuesday and Friday 11am-2pm. Volunteers are on hand to offer support and guidance, encouraging people to build their confidence and knowledge in accessing the digital world. In these sessions you’ll help people to learn basic digital tasks such as: Practise speaking English in a relaxed and informal settingTalk about subjects that matter to them, and their livesGain skills that will help towards independenceReinforce skills that they may have been learning in the classroomMeet new people and make new friends.Finding their way around a device Searching for information on the internet Using communication tools like Zoom and Whatsapp Setting-up and using Email & Social Media Navigating useful websites like Universal Credit Staying in touch with friends and family. Taking up new hobbies Looking for jobs online and preparing for interviews. Anything else they wish to access on their device You will also be responsible for teaching them how to safeguard themselves while on the internet. Skills & Experience Personal qualities most suited to the role: Over the age of 19Be a native or near native English speaker (Llevel 1 or above)A sound and confident knowledge of using laptops and tablets, preferably Windows 10. An interest in supporting digitally excluded people to achieve their learning goals. Reliable and good time keeperBe an excellent listener, empathetic, enthusiastic, patient and approachable. Flexible approach To be able to recognise and work within personal and organisational boundaries. Communicate well with diverse groups of people (ability to speak other languages is a bonus!) Willingness to work without direct supervision. Good problem-solving skillsUnderstanding of internet safety 18 yrs or older. Desirable criteria: Experience working with migrant communitiesTEFL or CELTA qualified tutorTEFL or CELTA studentvulnerable adults.
