We have loved seeing some of what they have been up to. We appreciate that managing to balance it along with all the other aspects of life may well have been a challenge! As the children continue to be out of school, with no confirmed date for return, we understand continuing to engage them in home learning, now that the novelty has worn off, may be becoming more difficult. There is no pressure to complete everything on this home learning document but we would ask you to try and give some prominence to the key skill areas of English and Maths when selecting what to do this week as these subjects underpin learning in all other areas of the curriculum. Hopefully they will also enjoy continuing to choose additional activities from the rest of the curriculum that will interest them.Please remember we would love to see any of your work or practical activities in picture form on our year group email,?year4homelearning@chawson.worcs.sch.uk?should you wish to share.This week’s activities as usual have plenty to choose from...ReadingWe recommend that your child reads daily to an adult. You can use their reading book or any books you have at home. Why not make a miniature book of your own this week? You could make up a story of your own or write a story that you already know but in miniature. Have a look here: - you could then read the story to your favourite teddy or family member.Listen to J.K Rowling read a book she wrote for her own children which is called The Ickabog week your reading comprehension tasks are based on a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson called My Shadow. a poem that you like and read it out loud. Think about how many verses it has, does it have rhyming couplets etc.SpellingSpelling is a really important part of the curriculum and practice makes perfect! Please practise the following spellings daily.This week we are looking at some of the tricky words Year 4 are required to learn. This week’s words are: - perhaps, popular, popularity, position and possess.How many times can you write each one in 60 seconds?Use a dictionary to make sure that you know the meaning for each one. Can you use it in a sentence correctly?Write each word on a separate piece of paper. Put them face down. Choose a word, read it, put it back down and try to spell it. Now put the word into a sentence.You could also practise your cursive handwriting by downloading spelling sheets from here:- that we have been off for some weeks, it is important to practise your writing skills a little each day.Revise and practise your use of fronted adverbials using this PowerPoint and worksheets:- and you don’t have to print them off you can just work through them on screen.Keep you diary going, record your feelings and what you are doing each day to keep yourself busy. Extra challenge option! Watch this short film (5 minutes) Re-tell the story from the point of view of one of the characters; the wish granter, the money wisher or the love wishers. What extra information can you give to the reader to make it really interesting?MathsPractise your table practice should be done daily. Practise all of your times tables here:- do a speed test here: - This week we would like you to try and solve word problems with more than one step. Read the problem carefully. Underline the important parts and work through it one step at a time. Remember that the sheets are differentiated with a one star sheet being the easiest. Geography – England is in Europe which is one of the continents you should now be able to identify on a map of the world. Choose another country that is in Europe and find out some facts about it.
