What type of letter is it?
o Vowels open the mouth and are voiced. The vowels are a, e, I, o and u.
o Consonants are blocked or partially blocked by the tongue teeth or lips.
Why teach the syllable types?
o English has 5 vowel which make 14 + vowel sounds. o One factor in determining a vowels sound, is knowing the syllable type. o Knowing the syllable types, makes decoding easier and more efficient.
