Sample answers for "The Bicycle"November 6, 20139:47 AM?Describe what Hannah's character is like at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the story.*I EXPECT you to provide a reference to the story to back up each answer.Use proof (see the examples below of how we used quotations to help you) from the story to explore the following changes in Hannah:-interests>change-feelings>change-maturity?In the beginning of the story, Hannah is "...in love with the life of music [Tante Rose] described to [her] in so much detail." By the middle of the story Hannah has changed her interests from piano to riding a bicycle and feeling "...the wind in [her] hair."By the middle of the story Hannah is having different feelings about her piano lessons. She feels like she needs to do more things. Her friends get to do all sorts of things like talking about " movies and books" and having dates and dance classes, while Hannah just gets to practice piano. Hannah begins to feel the need to rebel and does this by riding a bicycle....what she does...how the adults respond...what she learns/does as a result of her learning>what is Hannah feeling at the end of the story??By the end of the story, Hannah has rebelled by riding her brother's bike. She is confronted by Tante Rose who kicks Hannah out of her apartment. Despite the fact that Tante Rose gives Hannah a ticket for her to fly to New York and audition for the music school, Hannah shows that she has matured by owning the decision to not go to the audition because she wants to be in charge of her own life. Going to New York would mean that she would be in the same restricted life-style. Hannah, having lived that life-style with Tante Rose, knows that it is not what she wants.?This is the answer from 2DI-04:At the beginning of the story Hannah is in love with the idea of being a concert pianist like her Tante Rose. Early in the story Hannah tells us that she is "...in love with the life of music [Tante Rose] described to [her] in such detail." By the middle of the story, Hannah is feeling rebellious. She wants to prove that she is "... at least a little bit like [her friends] Iiana and Leah." Hannah says she "...felt lonely and isolated" because her friends get to do all kinds of things that she can't. Hannah has to practice piano for all of the hours she might have had free time. ................
