Monthly Reading Logs

Monthly Reading Logs

These reading logs are another way to keep your students reading at home. I like to have my students read at least 15-20 minutes a night. When I taught 2nd and 3rd grade, I would have my students fill out their log and have their parents/responsible adult sign that they witnessed the student reading. For 1st grade, I would just have the parents fill out the form. I try to stress in the beginning of the year that they DO NOT need to write EVERY single book they read that night on the log; just pick their favorite one to write down! (This is why the same message is on every month's log!) I copy the 2 sheets back to back.

You can use these as the "reading homework" recording sheets and the reading log with skills can be used as daily classroom reading recording sheets. I like to have my students read each day in the classroom as well as at night. I do this because sometimes life is just busy and hectic after school and not everyone can read each night at home.
