MI-BEST Workshop 4 Resources and ReferencesBelow are several resources shared by Michigan community colleges during the MI-BEST workshop on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. SNAP/Perkins (Dinah Schaller, Mott Community College)Michigan allows students enrolled in Perkins-eligible programs to access SNAP benefits if they meet other eligibility requirements. More details here: Oakland Literacy Council (Beverly Stanbrough, Oakland Community College)OCC partners with the Oakland Literacy Council () to support who need reading and literacy supports. CNS Healthcare (Marty Heator, Schoolcraft College) At Schoolcraft we partner with CNS Healthcare to give our students access to a therapist and other mental health resources, free of charge (Amy Goethe, Mid Michigan College)MMC has consolidated resources on one page at midmich.edu/wellness and has partnered with several community organizations to provide services. Community Partnerships (Anne Springsteen, Glen Oaks Community College)GOCC has a residence hall and they partnered with a local organization to address food insecurity. The partner organization is the fiscal agent to meet the requirement of being a 501c3 organization. Education Provider from MDHHS/Foster Youth (Lisa Thomas, Northwestern Michigan College) NMC has partnered with an education provider from MDHHS who supports foster youth enrolled at the college. Every region in Michigan has an education provider that can provide this support. NMC eliminated the application fee for all students. Bereavement Services (Cate Jarvis, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan)Provides grief and loss groups to K-12 school districts and (potentially) to community colleges. Grief and loss isn’t just about death. Local hospice care organizations are experts on grief and they can provide these services. ................
