FRONTLINE
[Pages:2]How to help protect against fleas and ticks
Step 1 Use FRONTLINE? Plus every
four weeks throughout the year to kill fleas and ticks.
FRONTLINE? Plus also prevents the development of flea eggs and larvae. Select the correct size of pipette according to your animal's weight.
Step 2 Make sure all cats and dogs in
the household are treated.
Each pet can act as a host for a flea infestation.
REMEMBER ? Fleas
There is no flea product that can stop fleas jumping on to your pet. It is normal to see a few fleas on your pet after treatment as new fleas can continue to hatch out of an infested environment. These fleas will be killed within 24 hours of jumping on to your treated pet. It may take three months or more to get rid of a flea infestation in your home, as it can take this long for all the pupae in the environment to hatch out.
REMEMBER ? Ticks
FRONTLINE? Plus doesn't stop ticks attaching but kills them within 48 hours, helping to minimise the risk of tick-borne disease transmission.

How to get rid of a flea infestation
Step 1 Treat all dogs and cats in the
household with FRONTLINE? Plus every four weeks for a minimum of three consecutive months to kill adult fleas and prevent the development of eggs and larvae.
Then continue to apply every four weeks throughout the year for flea and tick control.*
Step 2 Regularly vacuum carpets
and furnishings and wash your pet's bedding at 60?C.
This will help to reduce the number of eggs, larvae and pupae in the environment.
Step 3 Use FRONTLINE? HomeGard
household spray, which contains an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), in your home.
FRONTLINE? HomeGard kills adult fleas and larvae and prevents eggs from hatching. Remember to spray all areas where your pet goes. Larvae and pupae like dark areas, so spray underneath furniture and into the cracks in flooring. There are no chemical products that kill flea pupae.
Step 4 Allow treated pets access to
all areas to encourage fleas to hatch out of their pupae and jump on to your pet to be killed.
How to apply FRONTLINE? Plus to your pet
Weigh your pet and choose the correct size pipette for their weight to ensure they receive the appropriate dose.
Step 1
Hold the pipette upright facing away from you and tap the neck to ensure the contents are in the main body of the pipette. Snap off the tip along the scored line.
Step 2
Part your pet's coat in front of the shoulder blades until you can see their skin.
Step 3
Place the tip of the pipette on the skin where indicated, and squeeze the pipette gently to empty the contents. For both dogs and cats: apply at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades.
Important to know FRONTLINE? Plus causes fleas to become hyperactive and therefore more visible before dying.
You can handle your pet as soon as the application site is dry.
Your pet can swim or be bathed from two days after application. For full instructions on the use of FRONTLINE? Plus, please read the product packaging before use.

Facts about fleas
Your pet can pick up fleas wherever they go.
Did you know...
5% of a flea problem is on your pet.
95% is in the pet's environment as eggs, larvae and pupae (cocoons).
Life cycle of the flea (approximately 21 days)
1 Flea eggs
2 Flea larvae
FLEA LIFE CYCLE
4 Adult fleas
3 Flea pupae
1 Flea eggs ? A female flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day. They drop off your pet and into the environment.
2 Flea larvae ? Flea larvae move away from light deep into carpets and cracks in the flooring where they feed.
3 Flea pupae (cocoons) ? After spinning themselves into cocoons, flea larvae become pupae where they start to fully develop.
4 Adult fleas ? New adult fleas lie in wait in their protective pupae (cocoons) for a suitable host before hatching and jumping on to take their first blood meal.

Truth about ticks
Ticks can be found anywhere ? forests, grassy areas, urban parks and even your garden. They can attach themselves to your pet (or yourself). They might only be the size of a sesame seed before they feed on blood, but that doesn't mean they are a small problem.
Ticks not only cause irritation and inflammation but are also second only to mosquitoes~ in transmitting infectious diseases to humans and animals, such as Lyme disease. They can also transmit canine babesiosis to dogs, which can be fatal. With Lyme disease cases increasing both in dogs and in people,^ it is important to help protect your pet.
