We will then discuss what can happen when light passes through water, it creates a rainbow. Sunlight is actually made up of different colors that we don’t usually see. When a beam of sunlight comes down to Earth, the light is white. But, if the light beam happens to hit raindrops on the way down at a certain angle, the different colors that make up the beam separate so that we can see them — in the form of a rainbow. Dramatic Play- we will encourage the students to work with a peer or a family member. Have them change something or add something silly for the other child to notice in the mirror. They can use different props, like dishes, dolls, clothing, shoes, glasses, etc… Blocks –we will wrap some blocks with foil for the children to build with.Science- the children try to create a rainbow. We will provide a mirror, water and flashlight. We will record the colors they see and try to recreate the rainbow they puter- They will play math games involving measuring or colorsWriting- we will use their writing folder or will take a whiteboard and marker and write the colors of a rainbow.Literacy/ Library- The children will use books to identify words that begin with the letter o. Art-The children will create their own rainbow. We will discuss the colors we see and the shape of a rainbow. Where we see light? In our room, outside, everywhereWhat kind of light do you see?Sunlight, light bulb, light on carsWhy is light important?Lets us see, keeps us warm and gives people, animals, plants, all living things energy so we can growBlocks- we will add pictures of the nighttime NYC skyline to the walls in the Blocks/Construction Center. Invite children to observe the lights in the picture and create additional buildings to add to the skyline. Sand and water/ sensory- we will add traffic light circles to the sand. The children will look for them and then state what the colors stand for. Red-stop, yellow-slow down and green-go.Math- How many stars tall am I? we will provide the children with pre-cut stars, have them work in teams, one child lays down and the other will count the stars need to measure them. Then they will place the number next to the child’s picture on the graph.Table Top- we will add mirrors to the manipulative Center and invite children to build on them or next to them. What do they notice? What do they see in the mirror as they work? Literacy/ Library- The children will walk around the classroom (house) identifying objects that start with the letter o. Writing- The children will use the writing folder or we will encourage the students to write on dry-erase letters.Art- the children will create stained-glass window art. They will use contact paper and colored tissue paper. After completed they will hang in on the window and see how the sunlight affects the art. First we will ask why we need light. To see. If we have sunlight why do we need other lights? Sun goes down or cloudy days. Then we will talk about the lights we see outside. We will take a mini walk around our neighborhood to point out the different lights.Science- we will provide flashlights and invite children to disassemble them and explore the parts. Help them ponder how the flashlight works as well as what each piece is for and how they fit together. Blocks- we will add small traffic lights and traffic signal toys (or make your own) for children to use as they build. Math- Students will create a pattern using full moons and crescents. They will paste their patterns on black construction paper.Sand and water/ sensory- we will Line the bottom (or underside, if the table is clear) of the sensory table with tin foil. Add water as well as glass beads, bath balls, containers, scoops, etc. Invite children to explore, sort and enjoy. Literacy/ Library- Children will use pictures they draw or cut out to create a collage of words that start with the letter o.Writing- The children will use the writing folder or the children will practice writing their name in the sand.Art- the children will try to recreate a traffic light they saw on our walk. Then we will discuss the lights we see in our homes and school. How do we get these lights? Electricity! We will remind the children how water comes to our house. Then we will show them the wires outside which bring electricity to our homes. We need to remind the children that just light we cannot waste water we cannot waste electricity. Science- the children try to create a rainbow. We will provide a mirror, water and flashlight. We will record the colors they see and try to recreate the rainbow they see.Blocks- we will add pictures of the nighttime NYC skyline to the walls in the Blocks/Construction Center. Invite children to observe the lights in the picture and create additional buildings to add to the skyline. Dramatic Play-we will encourage the children to pretend to be an electrician. They can twist wires together (pipe cleaners).Math- the children will use the cutout stars to measure objects in the puter- They will play math games involving colors.Literacy/ Library-They will look at an alphabet book and listen to music to review letter sound and words that begin with the letter o.Writing- The children will use the writing folder or we will encourage the students to write on dry-erase letters.Art- the children will work with pipe cleaners. They will create their own electric wires and then connect it to a light that they create. A variety of materials will be provided with teacher scaffolding.Writing-Word of the Day- electricity FridayDate: February 5Good morning songMusic and movementRead book-Visual- fire We will review what we learned about lights and why it is important. We will review the different types of lights such as the sun and light bulbs. Then we will discuss another source of light, fire. We will remind the children what we learned about fire safety. We will discuss that while fire might be scary it is also important. What can we do with fire? Cook and stay warm.Blocks –we will wrap some blocks with foil for the children to build with.Dramatic Play- we will encourage students to pretend to be a doctor who x-rays patients with broken bones. Artificial lights can include x-rays. Have students create the x-rays using q-tips and black paper. Ask them to read the x-ray to you- Is the bone broken, fractured or in on piece?Sand and Water/Sensory-we will create shadows of objects poster. Then we will hide the objects in the sand. The children will find the objects and then match it to the shadow on the poster. Math- Students will create a pattern using full moons and crescents. They will paste their patterns on black construction paper.Literacy/ Library- The children will choose a book and identify words that start with the letter o. They will write it down and draw pictures besides it.Writing- the children will use the writing folder or the children will practice writing their names.Art- The children will create their own fire.
