To learn more about other scholarship opportunities or for assistance in applying for scholarships, fellowships, and grants, please contact the Fellowships Office.SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COLLEGE STUDYArmy Scholarship Foundation Scholarships: One-year, $500-2,000 scholarships for military dependents under the age of 24 to be used for undergraduate studies at accredited educational/technical institutions. Scholarship recipients may apply to renew their scholarships annually for a total of four years of higher education. Deadline: April. Council of College and Military Educators Scholarships: Offers $1,000 to service members (active duty or retired) and their spouses who are working towards the completion of higher education degrees. Deadline: November. General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant: Awards ranging from $500-4,000 (depending on the level of financial need) for eligible Air Force members and dependents. Deadline: March (Part I) and April (Part II). Leadership Scholar Program: Aims to provide assistance in accelerating the admission of qualified Marines to four year, not-for-profit, colleges and universities across the nation. UNH has been included among the participating schools since 2011. Applicants must be planning to attend a school as a freshman or a transfer student. Military VA Loan Disability Awareness Scholarship: Provides $1,000 to help with the costs associated with attending school. The scholarship supports disability awareness; applicants do not need to have a disability to be eligible to apply. National Military Family Association Spouse Scholarships: Various scholarships available to support military spouses to support a higher education degree and careers beyond college. Sergeant Major Douglas R. Drum Collegiate Scholarship: Offers $1,000-2,000 scholarships for members, spouses, dependent children, and grandchildren of the American Military Retirees Association. Students (sophomores to seniors) attending two or four year accredited, degree-granting colleges or universities are eligible to apply. Deadline: March. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDY ABROAD IN ANY COUNTRYGilman International Scholarship: Up to $5,000 to students who are traveling abroad on credit-bearing academic programs or internships that are at least three weeks in length. Students must be receiving a Pell Grant. Veterans of military service are encouraged to apply, and preference is given to veterans when other factors are equivalent. Deadlines: March and October annually. Fund for Education Abroad: $5,000 for study abroad programs over four weeks in length. Preference for rigorous overseas academic program, non-traditional study abroad students, and students with financial need. One scholarship reserved for a student attending school in New England. Deadline: January annually for following summer, fall, and spring. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CRITICAL LANGUAGE STUDY ABROADIf you are studying a critical need language (Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu), consider applying for these scholarships:Boren Awards for International Study: For students interested in issues of national security and studying critical foreign languages. Up to $10K for one semester/$20K for an academic year. Study must be in countries/languages critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Open to undergrads or grad students. The Boren Scholarships offer a special initiative for undergraduate ROTC cadets and midshipmen. Deadline: January (internal) and February (external) for study abroad in following summer, fall, and spring. *Students applying for the Boren Awards MUST work with the UNH Fellowships Office. Critical Language Scholarship: Provides fully-funded summer overseas foreign language instruction and cultural enrichment experiences in 14 critical languages. Open to undergrad and grad students who plan to continue study of critical language. Application due in November. Project Global Officer Scholarships: Provides fully-funded summer scholarships to ROTC students for critical language study domestically and overseas at participating universities. Open to undergrad students on track to commission through ROTC. Any level of language proficiency is accepted. Deadline: January (for study abroad) and February (for domestic study). UNIVERSITY, COUNTRY OR REGION-SPECIFIC STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPSBridging Scholarship for Study in Japan: Scholarships to undergraduate students studying abroad on credit-bearing programs in Japan. Stipend of $2,500 for students on semester-long programs; $4,000 for students on academic year programs. Summer programs are not eligible. Deadline: October and April DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service): Several programs for language/culture study, research, or STEM internships in Germany. German language proficiency depends on program. Deadlines: January, May, November, December (varies by program) ENZ Generation Study Abroad Scholarships for Study Abroad in New Zealand: $2,000 grants toward the cost of travel to New Zealand for study abroad. Must have at least sophomore status with a GPA of 3.0. UNH EcoQuest participants are eligible. Deadline: December and April.t.nz/our-services/scholarships/generation-study-abroad-excellence-and-travel-awardsFreeman Awards for Study in Asia: Supports undergraduates with minimum 2.8 GPA and demonstrated financial need who are planning to study overseas in East or Southeast Asia (Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam). Award amounts: Summer (up to $3,000), semester (up to $5,000), academic year (up to $7,000). Deadline: February/March and October. ItaliaRail Scholarship: $1,000 for study abroad in Italy. Must have at least 3.0 cumulative GPA, be on financial aid, and be sophomore or junior. Deadline: April and December. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PUBLIC SERVICE/POLICY/FOREIGN AFFAIRSThomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowships: Provides funding for grad school and internships to participants as they prepare academically and professionally to enter Foreign Service. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. Students must be junior or senior. Deadline: January. Charles B. Rangel Graduate Fellowship: Pays for 2 year master’s degree in preparation for work in Foreign Service. Encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in Foreign Service and those with financial need. Students can be seniors or recent alumni. Deadline: September. Harry S. Truman Scholarship: Provides up to $30,000 in funding to students pursuing graduate degrees in public service fields. Scholars should be “change agents” and are required to work in public service following completion of graduate degree program. Students must be juniors and nominated by their university. Deadline: January (internal); February (external). SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS IN STEMNational Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP): Offers a three-year annual stipend of $34,000 along with a $12,000 cost of education allowance for tuition and fees (paid to the institution), opportunities for international research and professional development for students who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in NSF-eligible fields. Encourages underrepresented groups, including veterans. Open to seniors as well as 1st and 2nd year graduate students. Deadline: October. National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship: Supports U.S. citizens and nationals who intend to pursue a doctoral degree in one of fifteen supported disciplines. Funding for three years pays full tuition and all mandatory fees, a monthly stipend, and up to $1,000 a year in medical insurance. Open to seniors, 1st, 2nd year graduate students. Deadline: December. Science, Mathematics & Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship: Pays for tuition and education-related fees and provides a stipend of $25,000-38,000, paid summer internships, a health insurance reimbursement allowance, and employment after graduation in a DoD lab. Undergraduate and graduate students in the STEM fields are eligible. Deadline: December.
