8th Grade ELAR SyllabusWelcome to my classroom! This year will be a fun and exciting year for us to work, learn, and grow together. The purpose of this syllabus is to provide you with the policies for my classroom. These expectations are designed to help you succeed this year.Classroom Expectations Honor: Do your own work. No cheating. Expectations: I have high expectations for all students. Be prompt, prepared and productive. Attitude: You must have and keep a positive attitude. Respect: You must respect yourself, peers, teachers and school property. Teamwork: We are a team; act as a team player. We do a lot of group work in our class. Groups are determined by me and will change at least once every nine weeks. I understand that some students prefer to work on their own, but working in a group is a valuable skill to develop. You will NOT be given a group grade so you will only need to worry about your own performance in your group.CONSEQUENCESInfraction #1- Verbal WarningInfraction #2- Phone call home and student conferenceInfraction #3- Parent-teacher-student conferenceInfraction #4- Office referralSUPPLIES1 pack of markers or colored pencils (for home use)1 pack of disinfectant wipes1 box of tissues 1 bottle of hand sanitizer1 pack of baby wipes GRADING POLICY2 daily assignment grades per week for all content areasNine weeks final grades must include an average of the following:The daily assignment grade requirement (12)Quizzes (combined with above or in addition to)Minimum of 3 test grades (COMMON ASSESSMENTS)Grades recorded are to be the actual grade earned; there is no minimum grade.Missing AssignmentsAn “M” in Canvas will notify students and parents of a missing assignment, which will be counted as a 0 if the assignment is not turned in by the end of the designated grading period.
