It was lovely to see the photographs of the children having fun in the snow last weekend and I think there is more in the forecast for this weekend! It has also been wonderful to see everyone in the live ‘check-in’ sessions that we have been holding recently. More of these to come for our youngest children next week! UPDATE ON RETURN TO SCHOOLMany of you will have heard the First Minister, Mark Drakeford’s announcement today that Primary Schools could begin to open for the youngest learners following the half term break. This will only begin to happen if rates of coronavirus continue to fall. At present, schools will continue to be open to vulnerable children and the children of critical workers up until the half term break. All other learners will continue to be able to access remote learning during this time.If the transmission of COVID continues to decline, then pupils will start returning to school in a phased way from 22nd February, starting with the youngest. Welsh Government are engaging with Local Authorities and other representative groups to plan for this return. However, at the moment we have no further information of which year groups this will be and how the phased return will look at Town Church. We are expecting confirmation of these arrangements next week but understand that the path of the virus is an ever-changing picture and that it is difficult at the moment to predict how things will look in a few weeks’ time. As soon as we are aware of any developments or local authority decisions we will let you know. If you have any concerns or queries, please remember that we are here to help you and you may contact us at any time.HALF TERMHalf term is week commencing Monday 15th February and school will be closed for this week. There will also be no online learning for the week. A reminder also that our next INSET day is Friday March 26th when school will be closed to all pupils as the staff will be receiving some important on-site training. INSET days have been included in all Autumn Term Newsletters so hopefully this date will already be in your diaries. Thank you.EMERGENCY PROVISION AT SCHOOL - REMINDERAs you are aware, the school currently remains open for the children of key/critical workers and those identified as vulnerable. The school is here to support you and if you need to speak to us about this provision please do not hesitate to telephone us. A reminder of the RCT criteria for key/critical workers is below:?????Health and social care workers (including care home staff).?????Public safety (emergency workers) and national security workers.?????Education and childcare workers.?????Food and other necessary goods workers (please note this is an additional category)If you have explored all possible childcare options and genuinely have no other alternative and have to work, then please advise the school by 4pm every Monday of your requirements for the following week. The current legislation only requires one parent to work in one of these outlined areas of work to access school based education. Please note, that places will be capped to ensure the health and safety of your child and school staff during this concerning period. The safest place for your child currently is at home but if essential, your school can provide education for vulnerable learners and the children of identified critical workers in school. Where demand for places exceeds supply, requests will be prioritised based on need.(RCT letter January 2021)NB: When the above situation changes – we will inform you. Thank you for your support.LEARNING AT HOMEThank you for your responses to our questionnaire about home/remote learning. It was so useful to hear your opinions and we are grateful to you for sharing your thoughts. I cannot thank you enough for everything that you are doing to support your children with home learning. I understand what a challenge this can be but I am delighted by the wonderful work and pictures that I see on Teams. I am so proud of our Town Church family. However, please remember that the wellbeing and happiness of your child is paramount, and indeed your wellbeing as a family. There is no pressure for you to undertake all the learning opportunities so please do not worry if your child hasn’t completed everything or if, some days, you aren’t able to go online etc. What our children need most at the moment is reassurance, security and love. At some point we will return to school together and get ‘back on track’ learning together. Until that time please do not hesitate to give us a call or contact your child’s teacher if you need support with any aspect of home learning. We can’t wait until school is fully open again and we are back where we should be. ‘Only in the darkness can you see stars’ (Martin Luther King Jr.)Every child in Town Church is a shining star – I am so proud of each and every one of them for lighting the way during these dark times. They are a true inspiration.Yours sincerely,M.C.WerrettMrs. M.C. WerrettHeadteacher ................
