Fall 20184229100-342899 CATALOG Of AFTER-SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES BONSALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Each semester, we at the Bonsall Education Foundation work with our wonderful community partners to bring Bonsall kids a host of fun and educational enrichment opportunities through our after-school programs. (See back page for class dates, time, tuition, and location)ART/CERAMICS: (760) 522-2992 * celweb@ * During this class, students will learn various methods of hand-building and sculpting with clay, applications of glaze and the purpose of the kiln. Methods of decoration on projects include stamping, texturing and clay embossing. Students will take home finished projects at the end of the session. THE KID’S COLLEGE: (760) 798-4064 * BEGINNER TO ADVANCED BEGINNER VIOLIN: Come learn to play the violin in a fun and positive way using simple tunes, basic music theory and fun rhythm games taught by a creative, early-music violin teacher. Parent meeting: 9/14 for instruments and information. Violin Rental: $15.00 per month (violin outfit…violin, case, bow and rosin). Accessories: Digital clip on tuner and shoulder rest required, $45.ROBOTICS, CHALLENGES & MISSIONS: Students will use LEGO robotics kits to expand their knowledge of robotics and coding. Using different sensors and increasing the level of challenges for their robots, students will be challenged to solve new problems that require more complexity in building and programming. Limited to 16 students.I CAN BE A SCIENTIST OR ENGINEER: In this 11-week session, science will be made more relatable and personal to students as they learn about the scientists/engineers that have made outstanding contributions to the world of science. As students participate in engaging, hands-on activities related to each scientist or engineer, they will build a personal understanding of each important discovery. We hope that our students will also be able to recognize their own character traits that will lead them to success in their future careers. Students will explore and utilize the scientific method as they: *Race cars against friction *See four forms of energy (sound, light, heat and electricity) transfer from place to place *Learn the differences between fruits and vegetables *Make sandhill crane puppets and “fly” them through their migratory route *Explore the nature of reflected light *Create a snowman family model to map inherited traits *Observe the mathematical symmetry of artificial snowflakes *Determine how windmills produce energy *Construct a 3-D model of a dinosaur from a 2-D model *Stay within a budget to design a boat that will carry the most pennies I CAN DO ROBOTICS!: Students will work as young scientists, engineers and mathematicians. Using their creativity, students will build working models and then use logic and brainstorming skills to create a program to produce specific behaviors. Explore both engineering and coding! (Limited to first 16 students.) EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE: Do you enjoy Science? Do you like solving problems, doing experiments, and having fun? Join us as we explore science and discovery though hands-on experiments and engaging activities. CHESS: (619) 585-1050 * International Master Larry Evans and staff teach chess in 33 schools throughout San Diego County. Beginning to advanced students are welcome. Chess is a great workout for students to improve spatial reasoning, visual memory and attention span while learning good judgment, reasoning power and self-confidence. The program includes instruction, formal and casual play and a team event. Students receive prizes and trophies to reward participation. In this high-energy, age-appropriate class, children will learn fun hip-hop techniques and combinations, danced to their favorite music. Students will also learn several choreographed?dance routines in preparation for an end-of-session showcase on the last day. Includes tee shirt! Students will also get to perform at the Jingle Rock Holiday Festival at Pala Mesa in December!STORYBOOK MUSICAL THEATER AND DANCE: Casting all boys and girls!?Students will explore fun drama exercises/games, dance movement for musical theater and an introduction to singing. Students will learn songs, acting lines/parts, and dance choreography?from current and classic musicals in preparation for an end-of-session abridged play. Costumes to borrow included! Learn all the skills it takes to be a master on the court! Learn how to improve your shooting, passing, catching and rebounding skills! Instructors will teach you about player positioning, dribbling, ball-handling and team concepts. Instruction includes offensive tactics such as shot selection and scoring while defensive tactics emphasize positioning and pressure from various areas of the court. CHEERLEADING: Show your spirit! Learn all the cheer basics during this fun class! Cheer dances, chants, kicks and jumps are just some of the things you’ll learn on your way to becoming a top notch cheerleader! Each week you’ll add counts on to a cheer dance. No uniform purchase necessary. MULTI-SPORT: Never get bored in this Multi Sport class! Class features will include a new sport every week, weekly scrimmages, speed drills, endurance training, agility obstacles, balance testing, experience-based learning and play-making class. Daily activities to include traditional sports like Flag Football, Basketball, & Soccer. To mix up the fun we'll have Dodgeball, Field Games, Ultimate Frisbee, and more!FLAG FOOTBALL: Ready for some football! Learn football basics through drills, obstacle courses and strength training with an emphasis on teamwork. Increase agility, speed and self-esteem. Intramural games will be played each class. No tackling, just fun! Super Bowl will be played on the last day of the session. Group will be split by age and ability. Designed for beginning to advanced levels. SOCCER: During this one-hour class, kids will learn the following skills: kicking, dribbling, goalkeeping, passing and ball control. There will be drills where the instructor teaches the individual skills and then scrimmages where the kids put those skills to use. TENNIS: Fit Kids incorporates the USTA newly developed Quickstart program. It’s an exciting new play format for learning tennis, designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring.
