How to add tabs to meetings ? Tried out Polly as a poll option. It gives you more freedom in terms of the types of questions you ask, when people see the results, and whether participants are anonymous. ? One drawback is that there are limited responses allowed (25 a month), unless you have a license. ? More information about Polly can be found at this link.

Breakout rooms ? Only meeting organizers can access breakout rooms as an option for the meeting. ? Breakout rooms are available in "meet now" scenarios - but only for the person who started the meeting.

TA Awards ? The TA Award application is due February 26, 2021 at 5pm. ? More information about the award can be found at this link.

Cameras and Participation ? The challenges of getting students to turn their cameras on still remains in Spring 2021. ? Some faculty have been more explicit about what participation looks like - that they should have their cameras on. ? One way to cold call on students in a fun way is to use a name generator, such as Wheel of Names. It also prevents students from feeling like they are being picked on or any sort of bias in choosing students. Wheel of Names seems to include at least 100 names, and you can copy and paste your students' names from the exported Canvas Gradebook or New Analytics. ? The Random Name Picker has embedding options.

Grading Quizzes by Groups in Canvas ? A faculty member cross-listed their sections in Canvas, and then moved students into groups. But then they were unable to grade the students' quizzes for the different groups. ? To fix, you'll need to uncheck "launch SpeedGrader filtered by student group" next to "large course" in the Canvas course settings. ? If you have a large course, you can set it up with sections (filtered by student group) and then have SpeedGrader launch loading just one section, which makes it run faster. Some other prep work is required to make the setting work. More information can be found on the Canvas website here.

Equations in Canvas ? If you are using equations in Canvas, ask students to update their Chrome browser. Without the update, the equation may not show up correctly.

? Instructions to send to students: o Update Chrome as the older versions may not render some equations correctly. This is critical for the online tests. o Go to the three dots at the top right corner. o Click on Help. o Click on About Google Chrome. o OR See Method 1 for visual help on doing this o It will start updating by itself.

Giving Students Question Credit ? Old Quizzes in Canvas ? If you used a question bank (or it's a matching question) to create an Old Quiz in Canvas and want to give all of your students credit for a certain question, you will need to manually change the question grade for each student.
