centercenter00October 2019FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEJoey Boos revisits Mushnik’s flower shop as Seymour in Little Shop of HorrorsActor excited for his return to Broadway’s sci-fi musicalINDIANAPOLIS – Turning 18 is a rite of passage. Becoming an “adult.” Graduating high school. It’s a pivotal year. For Joey Boos, it was a year that impacted his life significantly – and continues to do so today.“When I was 18 years old, I sadly lost my biggest fan, my mother, to brain cancer,” Joey said. “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through.”“She was the most supportive and always encouraged me to keep chasing my dreams, no matter what. It showed me that life is too short to not pursue your passion.”Joey’s passion for performing had begun four years earlier.“I grew up in Salina, Kansas. It’s a sweet small town that has a big appreciation for all of the arts,” Joey remarked. “I became interested in theatre in 8th grade. I had just moved to a small town, where I didn’t know anyone. So my Mom took me to my first audition, for Miss Nelson is Missing, at the local community theatre. I got cast, made some of the closest friends that I still have today. From that moment on, I was bit by the theatre bug and haven’t stopped performing since.”Then, at the age of 18, he was cast as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors at Salina Community Theatre. He was familiar with the sci-fi show about an alien plant that seeks global domination.“I have always loved Little Shop of Horrors! I remember watching the movie when I was in high school and fell in love with it. A few years later, the local community theatre announced it as the summer show and I was overjoyed and so excited to audition!”That audition paid off as he was offered the starring role of Seymour Krelborn, who works in Mushnik’s Flower Shop.“It has always been my dream role,” Joey said. “I had so much fun!”Joey admits he can relate to the sweet and insecure improbable hero.“I always felt I connected to Seymour on a few levels,” he said. “We are both a little shy, we both care deeply about others, we look on the bright side, we are ambitious, and we would do anything for the ones that we love.”Seymour’s love interest in Little Shop of Horrors is his coworker, Audrey.“My favorite part of the show is how the sweet love story evolves between Seymour and Audrey,” Joey remarked. “And my favorite song would have to be ‘Suddenly Seymour.’ It is musically wonderful and the way both characters finally reveal their true feelings for each other is just so beautiful.”And Joey is revisiting the flower shop and Audrey once again, as he plays Seymour in Beef & Boards’ production of Little Shop of Horrors, on stage through Nov. 17.He’s loving every minute.“Little Shop of Horrors has always been my favorite show! I am so excited to do the role for a second time!”Beef & Boards audiences were first introduced to Joey in last season’s Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, in which he played the youngest brother, Gideon – a character just as lovesick as Seymour.“I loved the people,” he said of that show. “It was so wonderful getting to do what I love with such an amazing group of people, on and off stage.”And he’s excited to return. “I love working at Beef & Boards,” he said. “It truly feels like a family. I feel so comfortable and happy working here. Everyone is so professional, while also being so kind and supportive.”After that initial performance as Seymour in Selina, Kansas, Joey graduated from Kansas State University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance and is currently based out of Kansas City, Kansas. This time, he said, “I want to do some more exploring of Indianapolis. There are so many fun things to do there! I’m so excited to be back!”And although he can’t see her, he knows his mom is excited, too.“I believe that she is always there at every show cheering me on.” Little Shop of Horrors is rated PG-13.
