Praying for Egyptian Christians By James Moriello

“where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian , Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all in all.” (Colossians 3:11)

These are uncertain and tumultuous times in Egypt. The country is on the verge of, if not in the early stages of, a revolution. Egypt is officially about ten percent Christian according to government statistics, but that number is more like twenty percent according to the churches. That means that Christians in America have millions of brothers and sisters in Christ who are now faced with political instability on top of the ongoing persecution that they were already experiencing. Such ongoing persecution falls mostly under the radar for us who live in other countries, but was recently brought to the forefront when the Coptic (Egyptian Christian) Church in Alexandria was viciously attacked this New Years Day in a religiously motivated attack. These Christians are a peaceful people who simply seek to love their enemies (Matthew 5:44). Let us pray that their witness and the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ shine forth and that many come to know the Savior and follow Him as a result. Jesus Christ loves all people, even misguided ones. Such were some of you. May God protect the people of Egypt, especially the Christians in Egypt, and specifically our friends in the Church of Alexandria—some of whom are now dealing with this on top of the grief of losing loved ones in the attack. “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all” (Ephesians 4:4-6).

God Will Save Us!!! By David LeBonte

Throughout the Old Testament, we see kings appointed, and they all make mistakes. God the Father meant to have these kings rule the earth but no one ever lived up to his calling. This is because no mere human being could. The only One who could, a Member of the Davidic line, was Jesus Christ.

Just as in Old Testament times, as the priest would offer blood once a year to our God for sin, it took the blood of the Messiah to save us (Hebrews 7:26-28, 9:22). God helps those who humble themselves. Every time a king would participate in idol worship or sexual immorality proving his mortal nature, a confession to the Lord was required and then his (the king’s) society would be the better for it. Dry grounds would once again be fertile once the foreign ‘gods’ were abandoned. But did God intend to make Moses or David the king? I think not because he already knew what would happen and that they were not meant to be the Messiah. Don’t get me wrong, these men did wonderful things in leading the people out of Egypt and fighting Goliath but they were men and therefore not worthy of the throne.

We are all saved Christians if we hold to the Word of God and believe that He died and rose again to deliver us and pay Satan’s ransom. But we should live up to the acts as best we can anyway and do more for the Lord. The Lord had to die so we would not have to live up to his perfect law. Paul says that we are saved by the blood of Christ and not by our works (Romans 5:9; Ephesians 2:8-10). Let us remember to pray and read the Bible every day. Let us live with humility, love, occupation and a respect for the blood of our Lord since we know that we will surely be saved in the end according to His promises. AMEN.

My Testimony By Raymond Castonguay

I was born and raised in Woonsocket with my two brothers and three sisters. I am the second oldest. I was just living life to the fullest, raising ‘heck’. I loved life, and I was always doing something adventurous. Then one day, my best friend and I stole a bicycle. We both got on it—Scott was up front and I was on the back. We were going down Transit Street when we hit an oncoming van and were both thrown off of the bicycle. Scott went straight up five feet and ended up landing on his head, breaking his neck. I found myself laying in a hospital in ICU, and when I awoke the nurses put me in a wheelchair. On the way to the bathroom, I heard the doctor saying that they did everything they could do but Scott lost his life. At that point I froze, and I never felt the same after that. I had been lied to by people I trusted. They told me that Scott was okay and that I would see him in a few days after I told them I wanted to go to his wake. I turned out rebellious and turned to alcohol and drugs—mostly alcohol. I drank for twenty-five years, but I have been alcohol free for twelve years now.

From the age of twelve, I believed in God. I remember seeing Jesus Christ Himself coming down from the sky all in white with my own eyes. That scared the heck out of me. I married an older woman at the young age of twenty. I had four step-children and two of my own. This February would have made thirty years of marriage, but my wife died of emphysema. I cared for my wife and did everything for her. She was the love of my life, and if it wasn’t for her, I honestly don’t know what my life would have become. My friend Roger always tried to bring me to Christ and get me involved in church. Now I go to Firm Foundation Christian Church. Personally, I like this place and I have met a lot of nice people. Pastor James has brought me a long way with the Bible Study. I still have a long way to go, but I will make it. I have been saved since I prayed the salvation prayer. God bless us all at Firm Foundation Christian Church.

Wisdom for Women By Susan Moriello

1 Corinthians 13:13: “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Let us take the month of February, the month of Valentine’s Day, and apply this Scripture to our daily lives. Let us set aside for a moment the romance, dinners, flowers, candy, and the like that are associated with the holiday. Allow ourselves instead to demonstrate our love for one another in our daily contacts with family, friends, co-workers, store clerks, and anyone else we meet. Surely we can offer a kind word, a listening ear to someone who is having troubles, time to spend with someone who is ill or a ‘shut-in’. Maybe you know someone in a nursing home who would welcome and be blessed by a visit. Maybe we can send a cheerful card or note to give cheer or encouragement to another in need. A person you know might appreciate a phone call, if they are feeling lonely and alone. No matter how small, let us act in love to one another as a testimony for Christ, and for His Glory. Until next month, go forward with your walk with the Lord and let His love shine on you. God bless you all!!

Random Thoughts By Tanya Hay

Recently I read a "Reminder!!!" in the Good News Today. It struck me and I thought reprinting it here may also strike you.

The next time you feel like GOD can't use YOU, remember, Noah was a drunk, Abraham was too old, Isaac was a daydreamer.  Jacob was a liar, Leah was ugly, Joseph was abused and Moses had a stuttering problem.  Gideon was afraid, Samson had long hair and was a womanizer, Rahab was a prostitute, and Jeremiah and Timothy were too young.  David had an affair and was a murderer, Elijah was suicidal and Isaiah preached naked.  Jonah ran from God, Naomi was a widow and Job went bankrupt.  John the Baptist ate bugs, Peter denied Christ and The Disciples fell asleep while praying.  Martha worried about everything, The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once, and Zaccheus was too small.  Paul was too religious, Timothy had an ulcer....And Lazarus was dead!

No more excuses now!!  God can use you to your full potential.  Besides you aren't the message, you are just the messenger.

Reminder above quoted from, Good News Today, Volume 10, No. 1, reprinted by permission.

  Jesus, please be my Valentine!

You make my life complete.

I can take my cares to You

And lay them at Your feet.

You give to me the blessings

That I cannot live without.

This is the kind of love that

Valentine’s Day is about!
