History - Working from home activity. The spring of 2020 is a momentous period of our time and may go down in history. It may well be studied in the future especially by historians. As you know, we study the views, opinions and thoughts of people in history and these are important. They are from people at the time and give us the views of ordinary people and not just politicians etc.During the Second World War the government organised a ‘Mass observation’ project to record the voices of everyday people. They asked thousands of volunteers, ordinary people across the country to write a daily diary telling them what they did each day and how they felt, what the news was saying and how the war was affecting them.We still use diaries and journals today. They help historians to get a different picture of everyday lives. The History department would like to be part of Dean Trust Rose Bridge ‘Mass observation’ project. Keep a journal or a diary for the next few months. You could record/video it on your phone if you prefer.Things to include:Write about your familiesMake a note of how you have tried to keep in touch with people during your ‘self-isolation’ or social distancingRecord funny things that have happened, things that bored you or that cheered you upTell us what the national news is telling us, what the local news is telling usTell us what people around you think about it allAdd/include information from newspapers, social media etc to your journal/diaryThese accounts don’t need to include your name. if you would prefer to remain anonymous – that’s fine. However, the history department would like to collect these findings when we return to school. In a few years’ time, historians might want to want to use your information as part of their research into the corona crisis of 2020. ................
