Alabama Two-Year College Library Association MeetingApril 18, 2017ALLA – Renaissance Conference Center Montgomery Alabama12.00 p.m. Meeting called to order –Presiding President Michelle Wimbish called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. Amy Smith introduced as Vice President. Announced the sessions that acting ATYCLA members would be participating at ALLA. Michelle informed the members that four vendors would be presenting information concerning consortium purchase options. She discussed the need for more pictures from out libraries and more history of ATYCLA. AVL budget was increased by three percent and the need for new two-year college representation on the AVL board. The next meeting for AVL will be in November/December. The by-laws were voted on and updated.12:10 Adjourned for lunch12:25 Meeting called to order Financial Report Treasurer Paul Blackmon reported that the bank account was moved from Wells Fargo to Regions. A Financial report and a member list were distributed. President’s Report Michelle announced the next ATYCLA meeting would be in November at the ACCA. Paraprofessional training is planned for June and requested the need for feedback on this issue. Suggested June 15 as “Customer Service” issue training and meet at Trenholm State at no cost. By-laws issues addressed. There were suggestions for the need to reduce the quorum to six schools. Dusty and Julia suggested a two-thirds or a certain percentage as a quorum. The final vote was for one-third of the members should be present. Next discussion was on section 10 which addressed dues. If we change the rule to “regional” it will not generate as much money. Michelle explained the dues for each school. A discussion was held on the issue of “regional” schools. Paul Blackmon made a motion to hold off on a vote until November and hopefully a representative from Coastal Community College would be present, Dusty seconded the motion. Michelle recommended to remove the publication from the by-laws or remove the newsletter all-together. Dusty was not in favor of this so he volunteered to do the newsletter. The wording was changed, pertaining to the newsletter, from secretary to chair. Dusty was assigned as the chairperson of the newsletter. Paul made the motion and Mary seconded, all agreed. Dusty is now the newsletter chairperson. Motion made by Dusty to keep Jeffery Faust over library directory and change wording to the chair of this committee, Paul second.Paul made a motion to change the mileage reimbursement to be the same cost as Alabama Community College System reimbursement. Mary second the motion and all agreed. Now the mileage reimbursement would be the same as the ACCS. A.P. Hoffman from WSCC-Dothan introduced as President-Elect to take office in November. Retirees announced Melinda Harvey – Gadsden State certificated accepted on her behalf. Vendor Presentations ? EBSCO – Lori Daniels – Discussed the e-Book collection, EBSCO Discovery, Open Technology and how it would work with ILS. EBSCO cloud service and working with LibGuide. How e-Book collection could be used with a class all at the same time, 55K titles. All items relevant to associates programs. Price based on FTE or participants (a certain number of school participating). All offerings can be prorated in mid-year. Can include CINAHL.? – Jim Barnes – He demonstrated the options available for and how they compare to “Homework Alabama”. gives more options for college students; 24/7, wait time under one minute, secure classroom, must have bachelor's to be a tutor, options to work with institutional research.? GALE – Representative discussed Discount on literary criticisms online, Gale Primary Source for $4950 one-time cost and can add to this collection, GVRL/E-Books 2014 or newer one-time ownership, provide marc record to load into our collection. ? Lib-Guide – Webinar/virtual presentation – Discussed Lib-Guide process and development. A trial can be requested through Tracie.
