How should we all feel because Jesus is alive?ActivitiesEgg-tionaryWhat You Need: “Egg-tionary Cards” Activity Page, plastic Easter egg halvesWhat You Do: Give your child about 12 plastic eggs or 24 plastic egg halves. Lay out one of the “Egg-tionary Cards” so that they can see it. Encourage your child to see how fast they can make the pattern. If more than 1 participant, they can race or work as a team to see how fast they can complete each pattern.What You Say: “What pictures did you make with your eggs? (a rabbit, a flower, a house, a smiley face) I’ve got one more picture for you. Let’s see if you can guess what it is. (Make a cross out of a few egg halves.) Yes! It’s a cross. “How do you think the disciples felt when they saw Jesus being taken away? (Scared, sad, confused) The disciples thought that Jesus was going to become a king right away. They didn’t know that God had a different plan—a plan that seemed upside down from what everyone thought was going to happen. And because they were sad and confused and scared, they missed a chance to put Jesus first. Instead, they ran away when Jesus needed them most. (Tell your child a way that you’ve put others first. Explain how it helped the other person and how you felt afterward.) “What are some ways that you can put others first? The cross should have had our names on it, instead of His. We celebrate Easter because Jesus took our place and died so that we would be forgiven, but then He rose from the dead to prove that death could not hold Him down.“When you wrote your name on the cross, it was a reminder that Jesus put us first. He died in our place taking the punishment we deserve for our sin. But he didn’t stay on the cross or in the tomb. In three days, He came back to life. We do a lot of fun stuff on Easter but the most important thing to remember is that God loved us and sent His Son to save us.”“Jesus put us first and turned the whole world upside down on Easter. Ever since sin came in the world with Adam and Eve, we have had a huge problem we couldn’t fix on our own. God’s love for us didn’t stop even though we have all broken His rules. He made a way for our sin to be forgiven. He made a way for us to have a relationship with Him. He sent Jesus. Today we celebrate God’s gift of a Savior.” (Share your faith story with your child. God’s word says, “If we confess ours sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.” (1 John 1:9)“When God forgives you, He makes you His child – a son or daughter of God’s family. Once you are a part of God’s family, you can talk to Him every day and be close to Him. You can also look forward to living with God forever in heaven.“Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes.
