RE: (Employee Name)

Garnishment or Court Docket No. ( )

Dear (Court Clerk Name):

This letter hereby notifies you that we have received the court order to garnish (employee’s name) wages. The garnishment was not served properly and is ineffective per T.C.A. 26-2-222 amended by Public Chapter 412 during the 2001 legislative session.

That legislation, which became effective on June 20, 2001, requires that garnishments of State employees be served on the Commissioner of the department where that person is “engaged or with which he or she is connected.”

Yours truly,

(Agency payroll officer’s name)
