General Manager, Nursery OperationsThe Twin Sisters Native Plant Nursery (TSNPN), is joint partnership owned by Saulteau and West Moberly First Nations, which has operated a successful progressive award-winning business since 2014 producing native plants for ecological restoration of disturbed sites created by industrial developments and other disturbances on the landbase. The Nursery is located a 35 minutes drive/40 kms northwest of Chetwynd, BC, at the west end of Moberly Lake. The area is surrounded by the lake and rivers, trees and mountains.The General Manager (GM) is the most senior staff level leadership position and their objective is the overall management of the nursery facility, protecting nursery assets in a positive, effective, results-oriented to achieve a safe, environmentally sound, high quality, productive and economic nursery operation.This position reports directly to TSNPN Board of Directors and is responsible for:LeadershipProvide leadership and mentorship to direct reports (Head Grower/Site Manager, Marketing Manager, Bookkeeper and all other TSNPN employees) including recruitment and selection, training and performance management, etc.Ensure health and safety practices are effective and all appropriate procedures are following agreed upon standards.Strengthen internal communication with staff at all levels throughout the organization, creating a positive and supportive work environment.StrategyWork with the Board of Directors and others in setting and implementing strategic direction for nursery operations.Implement action plans to achieve planned financial results.Provide monthly and annual updates on achievements in safety, human resources, quality, production, sales, capital projects and financial performance to the Board of Directors against defined targets and objectives.Nursery OperationsDirect and coordinate day-to-day nursery operations and activities.Implement capital projects approved by the Board of Directors.Education and ExperiencePreferred Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Resource Management, Business Management or other similar discipline.Demonstrated senior manager experience with a minimum of 5 years supervising an operation in excess of 5 employees.Experience in developing Requests For Proposals, tendering, bidding, and contract negotiations, preparation, implementation and administration.Previous experience in developing operational and capital budgets, reviewing monthly financial statements and reporting monthly financial performance to Board of Directors and/or senior management.Creative problem-solving manager able to deal with crises and implementing emergency response initiatives.Analytically minded, with the ability to pay attention to details, organized and demonstrated results-oriented and collaborate approach in management.Adaptable, flexible, effective with efficient decision making and problem solving often with little or no notice and limited support from the Board of Directors.Effective management of corporate records and maintaining confidentiality of discussions and records as required.Have excellent oral and written communication skills including demonstrated competencies with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.Knowledge and experience of working with and/or for a First Nation’s business and/or community would be an asset.Interested applicants please send a cover letter and resume with a minimum of three references outlining your qualifications for the General Manager position and why you should be selected as the successful candidate to Tamara Dokkie, Chair, Twin Sisters Native Plants Nursery Board of Directors.
