Ashley: Okay.

Driving Instructor: And I would signal, you want to signal your intentions early. [Ashley puts on her signal. She moves her car beside a parked car and two cars pass her.]

Driving Instructor: That’s it, rear bumpers lined up.

Driving Instructor: [Ashley and the Driving Instructor turn around to see the car as it manoeuvres into its parking space.] That’s great. That’s it, you can go back a little more…little more…that’s perfect.

Skills Alert: Work Habits: Teamwork

Driving Instructor: Okay Ashley. Although this is an excellent parallel park positioning wise, and you checked 360 before backing up and you looked to the rear while backing, this isn’t really a good place to park. Can you think why?

Ashley: [She looks to the left and to the right and then we see a screenshot of a fire hydrant beside the front right tire.] Um…oh, parked next to the fire hydrant. [Ashley laughs]

Driving Instructor: That’s right. It is illegal and unsafe, so what it’s important to do is as you’re approaching and scanning…

Ashley: [We see the car travelling down the road.] Under the graduated licensing program I have to wait 8 months to take my G2 test. That gives me plenty of time to practice.
