SAFETY AND SECURITY

Kenya’s Authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that all precautionary measures are taken for the country's safety and security. However, delegates are personally responsible for their movements.

Advisory:

• Be alert at all times – maintain situational awareness of your surroundings.

• Avoid walking alone in Nairobi during the night. Use hotel taxis or Uber services when moving around the city.

• When walking, keep to the main roads and avoid shortcuts down back alleys and the like. However, where possible, take a taxi rather than walking

• Don’t allow yourself to be distracted – aggressive vendors, panhandlers and even street children may attempt to divert your attention hence exposing you to opportunistic crimes.

• Do not accept food and drink from strangers - visitors are known to have been drugged and then robbed.

• Be particularly wary of people hanging around outside hotels - it is a favourite place to catch gullible visitors and con them.

• While travelling in a vehicle - keep the windows up and doors locked.

• Visit ATMs at well-lit and secure locations and only during daylight hour and only carry ATM or credit cards when you intend to use them.

• In view of evolving nature of identity theft, ensure that you maintain sight of your cards while being swiped at points of sale. It is also a good practice to travel with a lower limit credit card and use it as your main card while traveling in case it is compromised, lost, or stolen.
