ADDITIONAL MATERIALS Circular knitting needle size 6 (4 mm), 16 in. (40.5 cm) long

GAUGE 25 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in k2, p2 rib slightly stretched BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

NOTES 1. Hat is worked in one piece in the round, beginning on a circular needle then changing to double-pointed needles. 2. Top of Hat is shaped by working simple decreases.

HAT With circular needle, cast on 92 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts. Slip the marker as you come to it on each rnd.

Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * around. Rep Rnd 1 until piece measures about 10 in. (25.5 cm) from beginning.

Shape Top of Hat Note: When working Rnd 1, you'll be decreasing sts. Change to double-pointed needles as you work Rnd 1. Be sure to move your st marker onto the doublepointed needles as well!

Rnd 1: *K2, p2tog; rep from * to end of round ? you will have 69 sts. Rnd 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts around. Rnd 3: *K2tog, p1; rep from * around ? 46 sts. Rnd 4: K the knit sts and p the purl sts around to last st. Slip last st to your right hand needle, remove end of rnd marker, slip last st back onto your left hand needle and replace marker. Rnd 5: K2tog around ? 23 sts. Rnd 6: Knit.
