Math:

- Ch. 12 Quiz will be on March 25th. The Chapter 12 Unit Assessment will be on Thursday, April 1st. The Online Review Homework will open on Tuesday , March 30th. We will be starting our review section after we complete chapter 12. We will also be doing FSA practice in class throughout the month of April so we are best prepared for that test. As we get closer to FSA please make sure you are reviewing any skills you may have struggled with this year. Think Central has interactive lessons and tutorials to help walk you through difficult problems.

- In Math we will use a journal each day. Please help your child remember that this journal must be brought to school every day. These journals serve as excellent review materials and we encourage you to look at them each night to review what we did in class and to study the vocabulary words.

3rd Grade Math homework: Our expectation is that homework should be completed nightly except on the days we complete our Chapter tests, then there will be no homework. We are asking that your child complete the entire backside of the homework assignment, as the spiral review will reinforce all concepts taught throughout the year. We also expect them to complete the assigned problems on the front of each homework assignment, which will be stated in the homework chart (see above) at the beginning of each week.

Chapter 12 Vocabulary

closed shape, endpoint, line, line segment, open shape, point, ray, plane shape, angle, right angle, acute angle, obtuse angle, straight angle, vertex, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, intersecting lines, rectangle, rhombus, square, trapezoid, quadrilateral, triangle, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, decagon

*Please utilize the journal for vocabulary definitions

- If your child is struggling with any of the concepts please contact Ms. Thresher or Miss Comendeiro.

- On our 3rd grade website under the Math section, you will find different resources to help reinforce the skills we are working on. Under the Math section you will also be able to find a list of the Think Central Go Math Interventions that align with the chapter we are working on in our classroom.  Intervention videos will "show" how things are being taught and will give you better insight into how to "help" your child at home.

- If your child is absent when a math lesson is taught, he/she can go onto ThinkCentral to view the "Intervention" lesson for that particular skill. This will "teach" what was missed at school and hopefully help to prepare them for when they return.

- The log-in and password for Think Central has been placed on the inside cover of your child's planner.  Please utilize Go Math to help your child practice math concepts at home.  It can be accessed at  .  We will be assigning each student all of the interventions as we go through each chapter.  Please encourage your child to review previously taught materials through these intervention pieces.

World Lab (Science / Social Studies)

This week in World Lab we will be continuing our human body unit in Science. This unit will focus on identifying major body parts and understanding basic body systems. We will be exploring different body systems including the skeletal system, muscular system, respiratory system, circulatory system, digestive system and the nervous system. We encourage you to review their world lab journals each night, as we will have detailed notes from our in-class labs and discussions along with vocabulary words. Our test for this unit will be on Friday, April 2nd. We appreciate your continued support at home!

Language Arts:

This week we will be modeling an FSA practice test. Please make sure to review this once it comes home. If you are a remote family, please be sure to have ALL pages printed for Monday.

Please be sure to monitor your child’s written sentences at home, ensuring that conventions are being utilized (capital letter to start, punctuation at the end). We notice this is an issue for third graders this year.

Homework for the week:

Please make sure to read 30 minutes each night.

Fluency Practice:

Fluency: There are two of the same passage for the nightly fluency check. One is for you to follow as your child reads. Use the table at the bottom to record scores once each night. Your child should only be reading this passage for one minute.

Reminders:

-School starts at 8:45, but students are allowed in the classroom starting at 8:15.

-Please remember to sign the planner each night.
