YODAMathematics Course/8th GradeRoom D-203Course Description:In this course, the students will be learning the following topics:Integer ExponentsTypes of NumbersScientific NotationIntro to Linear FunctionsIntro to FunctionsIntro to GeometryTextbook: Go Math WorkbooksCourse Evaluation:Tests & Quizzes: 35%Projects: 15%Classwork: 30%Participation: 10%Homework: 10%Homework: Homework will be assigned daily and is due next class when class begins. All work must be shown to receive full credit. Showing only answers will NOT be accepted. Students will be expected to follow all instructions on the homework. NO EXCEPTIONS.Tests/Quizzes:There will be a test after every chapter as well as weekly quizzes. Tests will be announced ahead of time; however, quizzes might not be. All work MUST be shown to receive full credit on the tests and quizzes. There will be no sharing of material. Students must be prepared for each exam this includes pencils, paper, etc. Students will not be allowed to use any devices (cell phones, MP3 players, etc.) during exams unless otherwise specified. This includes calculators; students will be instructed prior to the exam when a calculator will be permitted. Each test and quiz must be completed following all instructions to receive full credit. Absences:It is highly recommended to attend every class. Each student should limit his or her absences as much as possible to avoid falling behind. Any student absent from class is responsible for all make-up work. Make-up tests will be given upon the student’s return to class either before or after school, by appointment. Following their absence, each student is responsible for requesting any missed tests, quizzes, or make-up work upon returning to class. Only students with EXCUSED absences will receive make-up work, quizzes and/or tests, of which they have 3 days to make-up. Extra Credit:Extra credit will not be assigned on an individual basis. All extra credit work must be completed fully to receive credit. Academic Dishonesty: There is zero tolerance for cheating. Students caught cheating will be given an automatic zero on the assignment, project, quiz, or test and be sent directly to administration. Parents will be notified and other teachers will be alerted. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, copying someone else’s work, “lending” your classwork and/or homework to another student, and “lending” knowledge of a test/quiz to another student. Do not risk your grade and integrity for a few points. Work hard and you will be rewarded. Please see the instructor if you have any questions regarding this policy. This includes beginning bell work immediately upon arrival, handing in homework in the designated folder, and having all necessary materials for class. Comply with instructions the first time you are told. Be respectful and courteous to all your teachers, classmates, and all school personnel, this includes your school’s property and your classmates’ property. This is your second home, treat it as so. Participate in class discussions in a positive manner. There will be NO GUM chewing in this class and all drinks must be in a bottle with a cap. Profanity, in any language, will not be permitted or tolerated. Personal electronics will be confiscated on sight and sent to administration.
