Essential Question: Is it important for ceremonies, rituals, rules and roles to be established in efforts to maintain a utopian society?

Learning Target: I can identify and examine the significance of the ceremonies, rituals, rules and roles in Jonas’ community and how such contribute to forming a utopian society.

Group A –Identify the ceremonies, rituals, rules and roles in the community. Create a large chart (or Google Docs, if laptops are available) that will be shared with the class.

Learning Target: I can identify, analyze and provide evidence for the themes of “sameness” and “feelings/emotions” in The Giver.

Group B – Identify specific and relevant examples of the following themes: sameness and feelings/emotions. You should have at least 2-3 examples for each theme. You can do this on a lined sheet of paper in the literature section of your binder. Create two columns: “theme” and a second column entitled, “text evidence”. Then number your examples and include page numbers in your text evidence. You may utilize Google Docs if lap tops are available.
