University of the Visual & Performing Arts

University Admission: Bachelor of Visual Arts/ Bachelor of Performing Arts (Visual Arts/ Music/ Dance/Drama & Theatre) Special Degree Programme

The University of the Visual & Performing Arts invites applications from candidates who have satisfied the following minimum requirements of the G.C.E (Advance Level) examination held in August 2015. The candidate should have been pronounced as eligible to obtain university admission by the Commissioner General of Examinations.

1. Minimum Requirements for Obtaining Entrance to the University

1.1 Admission will be based on the Z-Score obtained at the G.C.E (A/L) Examination held in August 2015.

i) In order to be eligible for admission to follow courses of study in Music, Dance , Drama & Theatre or Visual Arts, the candidate should have obtained at least a credit (C) pass for the subject he/she wishes to follow and at least “S” passes for the other two subjects offered at the G.C.E. (A/L) examination.

ii) He/she must obtain a minimum mark of 30% for the common General Paper.

Candidates who have been pronounced ineligible for university admission by the Commissioner General of Examinations due to not satisfactorily completing (ii) mentioned above are also allowed to apply for university admission only if they have already obtained a minimum of 30% on one of the three attempts given per candidate to allow to enter a state universities or are expecting to fulfill this requirement during a future attempt.

1.1.2. All such eligible candidates must get through the subject-related practical examination, if they are to obtain admission to the University of the Visual & Performing Arts.

3. Procedure for Submitting the Application Forms for the Subject-related Practical Test:

Completed application forms which have been prepared according to the sample application form in A4 size (one page) and should be sent to the following address by registered post on or before 27.05.2016. On the top left hand corner of the envelope please write: “University of the Visual & Performing Arts- Entrance 2015/2016”. Also mention “Study Programme Applied for (Dance, Drama & Theatre, Music, Visual Arts)”.

The completed application forms should be sent along with the bank payment voucher and a 9” x 4” self-addressed stamped envelope worth Rs.50.00.No other documents should be sent.

It is a must for those who expect to follow either the Dance, Drama & Theatre courses to send in separate application forms.

If the applicant is a school student, the principal of the school he/she attended or if he/she is outside the school system, the Chief priest of a religious institution or a Justice of Peace must certify that the copies of the certificates requested under no.08 and 09 of the application form are true and accurate.

4. Charges for the Subject-related Practical Tests:

Applicants who have to face the subject-related practical examination should credit Rs. 1500.00 in favour of the account of the University of the Visual & Performing Arts to the account number 5276145 at the Bank of Ceylon, Independence Square Branch by visiting any Bank of Ceylon branch in Sri Lanka.

The above mentioned examination is scheduled to be conducted in June. Those who have been selected to for the practical examination will personally be notified in due course.

Applications that are not fulfilled the minimum requirements for university admission; of those who have not made sufficient payment, and/or ones that are incomplete or submitted after the deadline will be rejected. In such instances, the payment made by the applicant in question will not be reimbursed.

All applicants who apply for the subject-related practical test in order to gain entrance to the University of the Visual & Performing Arts, should send their university entrance application forms to the University Grants Commission too.

The closing date for the acceptance of application forms is 27.05.2016. All applications received after this date will not be entertained.

Please note that the medium of instruction for the degree programmes offered by the University of the Visual & Performing Arts is Sinhala.
