The New 10-Point Grading Scale for Grades 1-12On April 12. 2016, the State Board of Education (SBE) unanimously voted to implement a 10-Point grading scale effective in the 2016-2017 school year for high school credit courses. The 10-Point grading scale will replace the 7-Point grading scale. Richland County School District One has adopted the 10-Point grading scale for grades 1 – 12 beginning in 2016-2017.10-Point Grading ScaleLetter GradeNumericalA100 – 90B 89 - 80C 79 – 70D 69 - 60F Below 60High School Credit CoursesGrades for high school courses in PowerSchool were locked and stored at the end of the 2015-2016 school year under the 7-Point scale. Summer school grades for summer 2016 were also entered and stored under the 7-Point scale. Starting August 2016, PowerSchool will store all grades and associated quality points going forward with the 10-Point scale.For the current senior class of 2016-2017, the quality points scored on the former 7-Point grading scale will be averaged with the quality points earned on the current 10-Point grade scale to determine a student’s GPA. The same process will be used for current juniors and sophomores.Current high school freshman (2016-2017) are entering under the 10-Point grading scale.
