Tener + que + infinitive is used to talk about what someone has to do.

Present Tense of -ar Verbs

Many infinitives in Spanish end in -ar. How do you form the present tense of these verbs?

Here's how:

In Spanish, the present tense is formed by changing the ending of the verb.

To form the present tense of a regular verb that ends in -ar, drop the -ar and add the appropriate ending.

The Verb estar

Use estar to indicate location and say how people feel.

Here's how:

Pedro est? en la cafeter?a.

Pedro is in the cafeteria.

Use estar with the following words of location.

al lado (de) cerca (de)

debajo (de) delante (de)

dentro (de) detr?s (de)

encima (de) lejos (de)

Use the word de after the location word when a specific location is mentioned. When de is followed by the word el, they combine to form the contraction del.

La biblioteca est? al lado de la cafeter?a. La tiza est? encima del borrador.

The library is next to the cafeteria. The chalk is on top of the eraser.

Estar is also used with adjectives to say how someone feels at a

given moment.

El maestro est? tranquilo. Las chicas est?n cansadas.

The teacher is calm.

The girls are tired.

?Recuerdas? Adjectives agree in gender and number with the nouns they describe.

Use ir to talk about where someone is going. How do you form the present tense of this verb?

Use ir with the word a to say that someone is going to a specific place. When a is followed by the word el, they combine to form the contraction al.

Los estudiantes van al gimnasio. The students are going to the gym.

To ask where someone is going, use ?ad?nde...?

?Ad?nde vas? Where are you going?
